Late to the game, but Godfather Part III is not good.

I know I’m not going out on a limb in that opinion, but what baffles me is how some people can say it’s their favorite part...wtf? I just saw it for the first time yesterday because I’ve avoided it. I had heard all the complaints about it and decided to steer clear for a while.
Also is it the vocation of the actress playing Connie to just be as annoying as possible? She was entirely shoehorned in this one and all the scenes where she is trying to give Michael advice just drive me up the wall.

Meh, I liked part two the most. No idea if that's godfather heresy but I really enjoyed the backstory of Don Corleone.
Part three was just weird.

There are 3 broad camps of folks who like/love The Godfather. Some folks are adamant that G1 is the best. Others, particularly Deniro fans (essentially you replace Brando with Deniro) swear by G2 and there are certainly things about Michael's ascendance that make G2 a compelling film.
Finally, there is the group that I loosely associate with - the films are roughly equal in quality and quibbling does no good - particularly now when we can point and laugh at Godfather 3 and say, "WTF were you Coppolas thinking?"

Try to find the Godfather Epic (or Godfather Saga) if you can. It is the chronological tying together of 1 and 2, with additional scenes.

I was unaware some people say this. I thought it was universally regarded as the worst of the 3 and the only real debate is whether it would be regarded as an ok movie if the first two didn't exist.

It's really hamstrung by an overly convoluted plot, bad writing, and several terrible acting performances. Otherwise, it's pretty good.

You know Talia Shire (nee Coppola, yes, the director's sister whose only work of any significance outside of this series is as Adrian, Rocky's annoying wife/girlfriend) played Connie in all 3 Godfather films and was nominated for an Oscar for Godfather 2, right?
While I agree with you that she was not good in Godfather III - it's arguable that nothing about it is good, other than Pacino - in spots. Even Pacino is annoying and inconsistent in this one. Seems an unusual sticking point for this particular film to focus on Connie.
Were you paying attention to the other acting Coppola (as Mary) in the film, Sophia, who stunk it up something awful?

3 could have been a good stand alone movie. In parts they had to reach to connect it to 1 and 2. Give AGs character a little more arch and cut out 2/3rds of the Michaels kids, dumbbitchKaye scenes and you have something.
