This should have been Conan or Craig Ferguson's show.

I love TRUMP jokes but those weren't funny

He's been sitting on those jokes for too long and they obviously did well at preview shows so it made it into tonights show. I also think he was clearly getting more at how flimsy Trump jokes are generally. They're "empty calories" just like oreos.

I'm enjoying it, and he was too good on the Report not to figure this out eventually.

Kilborne was great from the start - I thought Colbert would be smug and cocky like him.

Disappointed so far to say the least

You are all missing what he is doing.

I have been laughing out loud. This is a really smart board. I just think that people are reading this wrong.

He is doing it differently.

Holy hell. Can I take that bet?

I know right.

This first show is awkward but they are finding their groove... Trying some new things. Stephen is clearly a little nervous and unsure of what to say at times. They'll live and learn. Almost every talk show that has been successful has had to make major adjustments. It's to be expected when it comes to these things.

That and I think his contract is around $5 million for at least 3 years.

But if anyone wants to bet that he'll be let go in 3 months I'll take that.

AT, I signed in just so I could up vote your post. It's an intellectual show. I believe Sir Winston would only like this show if it was hosted by Dennis Miller.

Colbert's kid needed to have his friend sitting next to him so Colbert could give him a shoutout.

Greatest moment of the last Letterman Late Show.

Its pretty clear he's going to be just fine after those two interviews IMO. The set pieces and monologues will get better naturally as he and his writers get more used to the pace and beats of the show.

Exactly. Yes, not all of it is going to work, but with this type of show, you should get a lot of trial and error. Kimmel tried to be much more casual than his counterparts, but that didn't work and he had to change and try something else that would separate himself from his peers. Allow him to fail a few times so he can realize what he can do to succeed. This is how any competent business treats their new employees.

And Colbert I think is the best interviewer of the late night hosts. He did pretty good tonight with these people. Kimmel's just ok and Fallon fricking sucks at interviewing and has to rely on games. If Colbert is smart, I think he'll go very ballsy with his interviews, instead of playing games with them as Fallon does or be entirely condescending with celebrities he doesn't like as Kimmel does. Colbert's interview skills are hard to top, and if I were Colbert, this is what I'd capitalize on.
