I’m not sure if there has been a greater miscarriage of justice at the Academy Awards than this.

I know all of you agree with me.

Moderators, ban this person.

Uh, ya think? No one will dispute you there, except maybe visionary linguist James Cameron.

I agree, I'll also throw in the very next year, Shakespeare in Love beating out Saving Private Ryan for best movie, which makes zero fricking sense.

Kate Winslett’s breasts deserved an award, though.

Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas.

I don't disagree they got it wrong, but this isn't even in the top five for the Academy.

I thought Boogie Nights was the best film from that year but it didn't even get nominated while As Good as It Gets and The Full Monty did.

I completely disagree. L.A. Confidential was my second favorite movie of 1997, as well as one of my favorite movies ever, but Titanic was made to win Best Picture. It had everything a fan of old school cinema could ever want. It had an epic story, it blended old school Hollywood sets with thousands of extras with state-of-the-art CGI, and it told one of the most memorable love stories of the last 30-40 years.

Titanic was an ode to old Hollywood cinema. Cecil B. DeMille would have been proud of James Cameron's efforts. It deserved every award it got IMHO.

I can think of several right off the top of my head. Kramer vs. Kramer over Apocalypse Now, Ordinary People over Raging Bull, Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas, Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan, and Crash over every other film nominated that year.

Good Will Hunting should have won that year. But, you’re right, LA Confidential and Boogie Nights were way better than Titanic.
