re: “King of Queens” vs “Everybody Loves Raymond”

I watched one scene off KoQ and was appalled by how bad an actor KJ is.
I never watched ELR until it had been off the air for 5 years and turned up on NaN. I was struck by a few things:
1) How old fashioned, almost Ozzie and Harriet, many of the situations are. The wife is actually a stay at home mom who worries b/c she can't cook as well as her mother in law!
2) It wavers between classical sitcom form and post-Seinfeld quirky. Sometimes it's a standard sitcom, in both style and content, that could have been a Dick Van Dyke Show episode 50 years ago. Other times it's all the cast members standing in a row like talking heads exchanging dialogue for 5+ minutes.
I can't talk about ELR without mentioning it had one of my all time favorite lines. Somebody tells Raymond he's wasting himself on sports and should write something serious, and he replies: "I don't want to write The Great American Novel. I don't even want to read The Great American Novel".

I expect more would say ELR, but King of Queens is just perfect for me. I don't care for Raymond. I much prefer King of Queens.
I really like Patricia Heating in The Middle and have wanted to give ELR a shot because of her. But I never watched it originally because Ray's brother seemed like a character that would get on my last nerve and still don't think that I could overlook how annoying and unfunny he is.

I like both series a lot. I can relate to KOQ from the days before having kids, and definitely relate to ELR after having them, especially with my tall lanky doofus brother.

King of Queens easily for me. I usually watch every day.

King of Queens is a better show imo.
It made Kevin James not just funny, but hilarious. That’s an amazing achievement.
But Arthur was goat

I liked both shows. KoQ was funny, but as someone els mentioned, it was easy to dislike Doug and Carrie as they were portrayed as terrible selfish, but I guess that was the goal. Arthur was a great character and stole every scene he was in.
I also liked Raymond. I can only imagine living across the streets from my parents with small kids and it being exactly like that.

Never seen a single second of Raymond and don’t care to, but King of Queens is an all-time great

ELR is all about relationship/family drama. Its like watching a family therapy session but they all (mostly Debbie) try to be the therapist. There are a few good episodes (frog lady), but mostly they are terrible.
KOQ may be the GOAT sitcom. Arthur is the best character ever.

I don't care for either of these shows. I would pick the one without Ray Romano's Kermit the frog voice.

King of Queens wins easy for me. One of my all time favs.

ELR has some great moments (mostly with the parents), but we've rewatched KOQ from start to finish, and had to pull ourselves away from watching the entire series again.
I put Doug and Carrie up with Ralph and Alice Kramden, Lucy and Ricky, George and Gracie, or any other great TV couple.

I'm not a fan of either show, but the ELR scenes with Fred Willard and Chris Elliot always make me laugh.

I preferred the chubby, trashy wife.

I'll give a slight edge to The King of Queens because the writers had the guts to make Carrie, the wife, flawed. So many sitcoms paint the husband as a buffoon or a schlub and cast the wife as an angel.
Not this show. Carrie can be petty, selfish, and irresponsible at times, and I love her for it. This show is one of the more accurate representations of real marriage ever shown on television. I cast my vote for the King; long may he reign...

Both are really good in their own way! I do believe KOQ is better. Doug just ends up in hilarious situations like being a fake lawyer just to play softball lol or faking heart attacks just because he forgot Carries coworkers names!
