Superman's "death" was never supposed to be weighing heavily on the audience. It was the effect on the other characters that carried weight with the audience. (And Superman's absence was the centerpiece of the first half of JL.)

Even if Snyder hadn't shown the dirt rising from the coffin in MoS, the audience would've known that Superman would never stay dead.
