John Campea is saying Matt Reeves is Eyeing Jake Gyllenhaal for 'The Batman'

Ben Affleck has made it clear that he's ready to hang up the cape and cowl as the DC Film Universe's Batman and now a new report claims to reveal who director Matt Reeves is eyeing as the new Bruce Wayne.
Earlier today, we heard that The Batman director Matt Reeves is mulling over finding a new actor to take on the role of the Dark Knight in his trilogy, no great surprise considering the fact Ben Affleck seems ready to walk away from the character. Well, in the video below, John Campea now claims that the War for the Planet of the Apes helmer has set his sights on A-Lister Jake Gyllenhaal (Stronger).
Apparently, two ideas are being considered for the trilogy; one would see it set apart from the DC Films Universe (which probably means we can forget about seeing more of J.K. Simmons' Jim Gordon) and the other would be set before the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jake and Ben aren't dead ringers for one another but given the near ten year age gap, it could actually work really well!
Just a rumor, but do you think this would be a great choice? if not, who?
And FWIW, several pretty reliable bloggers (jett from BOF, for example) are saying it's the worst kept secret in hollywood that Ben is out.

I've also seen Ryan Gosling's name rumored. I think both are bad choices for Batman.

Is it me or does Affleck's Batman just kind of get lost in the shuffle between Chrisitan Bale and whomever comes next? There just hasn't been as much emphasis placed on him, didn't get his own film, etc.

they could do a lot worse. for example, they could name someone like ben affle...oh, wait...

I'd prefer Jon Hamm over Gyllenhaal.

Affleck's Batmas was the worst looking thing ever. Almost anybody else would probably be an improvement.

Not if they still plan on putting him up against Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke. Manganiello is like half a foot taller and way bigger than Gyllenhaal. Even if you manage to frame a shot it will look like Deathstroke is beating a middle schooler to death.

Wasn’t he up for it in the Nolan trilogy ? He seems more Peter Parker than Bruce Wayne though.
I wonder why Affeleck wants out so bad?
Yes please

I thought that Harvey Weinstein being a serial rapist was the worst kept secret in Hollywood.

I think The Batman was supposed to be about a younger Batman, maybe a prequel. Jon Hamm is too old for that.

I disagree with this.
Hell, IMO, the scene in BvS when he fights the warehouse full of guys is the closest I've ever seen to comic Batman in live action.

This is so garbage. Can we just stick with one Batman?

I think Affleck was perfect for Batman, to be honest.
Looks very similar to the TAS version, and had the size, build, and sulky demeanor to pull it off. JK Simmons appears to be a great choice for Commissioner Gordon, and Jeremy Irons is an intriguing Alfred.
If they are going to continue the DCEU, I'd rather they just recast the Batman character and keep moving forward with the rest of the cast. They've got great options for every character and I'd hate to see that wasted because they feel like it HAS to be the same actor throughout the series.

He already said in an interview that this is why
Also, Because the movies suckass, the DC universe is a dumpster fire, the studio is a peice of shite, Snyder is a no talent hack, and they managed to crush Affleck’s dreams like the rest of us. Dude was the bomb in Phantoms though.
I wish they'd just let him and Kevin Smith make a fricking stand alone Batman movie.

What I really wish is they would say frick the entire DCEU and just reboot Batman. And forget Batman's origin story.
Movie 1: Batman with Dick Grayson as Robin (villain options: Hugo Strange, Riddler, Two Face, Penguin, Scarecrow, Freeze).
Movie 2: Batman with Jason Todd as Robin with cameos of Dick Grayson as Nightwing.
Side movie: Nightwing standalone
Movie 3: live action "Under the Red Hood."

Well it's kind of too late now, but I always thought they should have gone younger across the board so that everyone could age together in the group. Armie Hammer had been cast as Batman 10 years ago in a project that was going to be directed by George Miller.
He and Cavill were really solid together in Man From Uncle. like Hemsworth, he's actually the right height...and like Hemsworth he'd need to add a bunch of weight from where he started.
But I'd have cast Hammer this last go round and I'd be cool with him now.

I could do a whole other thread just on fan casting Batman Villains.
