The Authority is a very different kind of superhero story. They are basically good intention, but they think that the world is completely broken and the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments, whatever they want to do to make the world better

So you’re telling me this is a group of gays that go around killing the Republicans?

I don't think anything prior to Shazam will be considered canon. They'll just use the Flashpoint to start over. It will be confusing but not much different than what Marvel will do with the Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Right, Flashpoint provides a perfect opportunity to break from the current narrative in the DCEU. When the hijinks are done by the end, Flash could appear in the new DCU which we’ll uncover in later projects.

FF and X-Men are different because we openly know prior versions (Fox) or others (838) are just different universes in the multiverse. MCU versions of those characters do/will exist eventually just like Tom Holland, and I’d expect different actors to play those roles after Secret Wars. That’s more comparable to Reeves Batman or The Joker, Elseworlds stuff.

This is the part that gets me:

quote:

Paradise Lost: The duo describe this HBO Max series as a Game of Thrones-style drama set on the all-female island that is Wonder Woman’s birthplace, Themyscira, filled with political intrigue and scheming between power players. It takes place before the events of the Wonder Woman films.

So even after Flashpoint, we’ll presumably get an earlier version of the WW we know that may or may not be Gal Gadot. If so, did those films happen in canon but she just never met the JL in the new universe from Flashpoint? Same with Aquaman, Shazam, and presumably Flash himself.

I’d hope we have a much clearer idea after that movie.

This doesn’t give me any hope for the future. Far too many projects IMO. And convoluted on what is and isn’t in DCU.

Just stick with Superman and Batman. Build from that slowly. We don’t need 50 projects

WBD doesn't even have cash to properly market or distribute their films, i'm doubtful about how good half this stuff will end up being

As far as Robert Pattinson as Batman goes, he will not be starring in the new DC Universe Batman and Robin movie The Brave and the Bold as Gunn and Safran will want a new face for that edgy tale about the Dark Knight and the unhinged, spitfire son he never knew about, Damien Wayne. Pattison will continue to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ sequel, Batman II, which is currently being penned.

what a shite show - let’s do a universe and have parallel universe movies simultaneously

DC sucks

Phase one will Fizzle and Gun will be replaced before the story is concluded.

First and foremost, Gunn and Safran were adamant that they would not greenlight a movie until it was ready.

“People have become beholden to [release] dates, to getting movies made no matter what,” Gunn said of the modern studio habit of scheduling tentpole films and sequels for theatrical release long before creative teams come together. “I’m a writer at my heart, and we’re not going to be making movies before the screenplay is finished.”

Gunn said that even films with front-loaded release dates will be pushed down the calendar if the script is not ready prior to production. “I’ve seen it happen again and again — it’s a mess” he said. “It’s the primary reason for the deterioration in quality of films today, versus 20-30 years ago.”

“The degradation of the writer in Hollywood has been a terrible story,” Gunn said. “It’s gotten much worse since I first moved here 23 years ago. Writers have been completely left out of the loop in favor of actors and directors, and making the writer more prominent and more important in this process is really important to us.”

They are really overestimating the popularity of this character.

As a lifelong fan of DC Comics, I'm truly impressed that they found characters I've never heard of. Also very disappointed that they are in the FIRST lineup of projects.

So we have a young Superman, but an old Batman? That makes no sense.

Would be nice to get Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, or Tim Drake, but I guess they'll forever be relegated to video games and TV shows. I also hate that they're skipping directly to current-day Batman. If they'll let Scott Snyder be involved that would ease my fears about this.

Yeah....this blows.

Green Lantern and Themyscira shows might be the only good things on the slate.

I'll just stick with the Reeves/Pattinson Batman stuff.

Interesting statement. I'd say activism is the cause of the deterioration of films today.

Doesn't matter what writers you get if they're only interested in pushing social justice messaging.

I think it's hilarious that they are getting a NEW new batman.

We're going to have 4 dudes play the role within the last 12 years.

Which is why I think it's smart to bring in Robin. And I'm sure others in the bat family will join. You just can't have another batman solo film.

This is disingenuous and you know it. There's a difference in source material vs changing it just because. Nice of you to throw that in there when no one else brought it up. Definitely your MO.

Have you not learned that battling the mob on here is a waste of time?

Gunn has an uphill battle. Until proven otherwise, the mob will continue to pounce.

People don’t know what they want until they see it. And if the early Avatar 2 takes on here tell us anything, it’s that this board is not always the majority. No sense in wasting time questioning the mob.

It gets crazy. The "husband" of the one assaulted gets revenge on the Captain America with a jackhammer. Thankfully it's off panel.
The characters are much much more powerful than the Justice League. A Superman pastiche, a Batman pastiche that's much stronger/better fighter, a reality warper, a nanotech machine hero and an infant more powerful than them all. I suggest Googling Authority and ReadComicOnline and look around issues 11-20 or so.

You think it's a stretch to assume that the political killings this group is supposedly famous for won't turn into conservatives?

The showrunners of Andor outright said it's a take on a "Trumpian world"

Let's wait and see who is ultimately right about the direction they take it

Suicide squad was fricking awesome. Same goes for peacemaker.

Every single thing Gunn has made has been good all the way back to Super with Rainn Wilson.
