I just finished watching 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. This is the most graphically violent film of the last 25 years.

Some of it is that Jim Cavieze, the actor playing Jesus, really did repeatedly get injured during the film, and his actual pain is visible during the movie. He experienced some unintentional, albeit not completely unforseeable, injuries such as dislocating his shoulder while carrying the cross, and getting stricken twice by the whip during the whipping scene. He also experienced a less forseeable injury, which is that he literally got struck by lightning during the Sermon on the Mount scene.
He had to have 2 open heart surgeries to fix his injuries from the movie.

But Pilate offered to spare Jesus. A crowd of angry Jews (pushed by rabbis) told Pilate to crucify him.
Not a Jew Hater. Not a Pilate Hater. Those are incongruous statements.

This isn't controversial. The Jews killed Jesus. The Romans are the instrument they used to do so.
And Jesus submitted to God's plan.

Yes, Jesus submitted to His own plan.

Since its release, I have yet to see a major motion picture that depicts the murder of someone in such a brutal, realistic, and visceral way.
Robocop.
Which, ironically (or maybe not), was meant to be seen as a take on an "American Jesus."

What? no
Well, you didn't see it with this one either. It wasn't a murder; it was a state-sanctioned execution.

Technically it was a state-sanctioned murder

It wasn’t murder, that’s a Lucan conceit.
The charge was placed above his head.

Seems pretty clear.

Well technically the Roman who stabbed Jesus in the midsection would have been the murderer

28 years later bone temple was tame compared to this film. All of the violence was over-the-top

That was to verify death, not murder him. State executed him.

Uh, no.

From the perspective of someone who isn’t a Christian, it could easily be seen as a 2 hour snuff film devoted to depicting someone being tortured to death.
Mel Gibson was capturing, the best he could, the full nature of Jesus’s’ death. He was tortured far worse than we can imagine, to the point that he was unrecognizable while hanging on the cross. He was also hung naked, to shame Him, but that was not shown for obvious reasons. This was not even remotely close to a snuff film but rather to allow Christian’s and no Christian’s to get a full understand of the horrific death that Jesus suffered for Christian’s and non-Christian’s alike. He knew the death that awaited Him which is why he sweated blood while praying for God to remove that cup from Him, but in the end said Gods will be done.
He loved us all that much and the only time He ever cried out was when God turned His face from Him, which is when He said “God my God, why have you forsaken me?”. That was more unbearable for Him than the torture he received to His physical body.
