We've done this dance before. We'll tell you how great it is, you'll come back in a couple of weeks and tell us how stupid we are for liking, that it has no redeeming qualities, blah, blah, blah. Can't we just concede your superiority and save us all the effort of this excercise?

Absolutely. Best comedy on tv right now.

I really would be surprised if he doesn't like it. The show is smart with heart. I do think he might dislike Phil but I think he will like the show.

Dislike the funniest character?!

I like Phil but some of his plots are zany, some, most aren't. Jersey doesn't like zany.
There are a few on here that like the show but don't like Phil and have repeated that sentiment in episode threads.

It took me a while to warm up to him, but as the show has progressed he is by far the funniest character on the show. BTW, I'm not normally a fan of the zany.

Phil is the closest thing to Micheal Scott on tv right now.

The show doesn't have a laugh track. It respects your intelligence. It is the best comedy going on TV today.

This was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television. "Does the carpet match the drapes?"

Let's not forget the unsung hero of the show: Luke.
Also, I saw Manny doing commercials for K-Mart a few nights ago.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/icons/casty.gif)

You sure about that, chief? Check the OP again. I came here asking about Party Down, watched it on the advice of the board, and now I love it and am pissed it's already gone. (Of course, I've already been attacked for saying it's better than AD).
Ditto Spartacus. Ooooh, looky me and my high-brow, contrarian ways!
Actually, I'm not sure what you've posited has EVER happened with me. But feel free to live in a fantasy world.
Anyway, we checked out the first 3 episodes last night. Meh. I just really feel like every show suffers now if it's not on HBO or one of those stations.
I could see it having potential, but definitely at least a little too zany. Best characters are definitely Ed O'Neill and the main dad. The entire gay plotline is just too much and is mostly entirely unfunny.
I think I laughed outloud twice - both times at the extremely mild racist humor that was allowed on a network like ABC.
They flirted a bit with some Wonder Years/Doogie Howser type of serious endings. Does that increase or decrease?
What, in theory, is the reason they are sitting on couches talking to interviewers? (Or is it just like Parks and Rec and it's a 4th-wall device that is used without explanation?)

4th wall device.
I worried you might find it too zany although in comparison to most sitcoms it is not remotely zany. The situations are no more zany than what Larry gets into every week on Curb.

Phil is one of the best characters on TV.

It's very well done by today's standards. It was pretty funny from the start so if the first few episodes don't do it for you can quit. It's not a series where it takes half a season to start working.
