Was it? Dang, I don't know why I thought that was in Return of the King. I've been meaning to do a rewatch of the extended editions and that dumb mistake has pushed me to do it this weekend.

I'd go Indiana Jones and of course Star Wars has cultural cachet. My tastes are a bit towards some smaller trilogies: the Evil Dead, Trois Coleurs, and the Before series by Linklater. I loved the Cornetto trilogy answer. Pretty great stuff.

If we get to dump crystal skull, I'd prefer Jones easily over LotR. LotR doesn't age well with me, it was amazing the first few viewings and now it's a chore to get through and you can't just go back and watch one, it's an obligation to watch them all. I can sit down with any of the Indy movies and watch them separate.

Before trilogy is a classic too, it should be in the discussion.

Not to mention it wasn't even a subplot. He got right back on his horse after coming to and made it to Helm's Deep before the battle.

Yes. Absolutely.

Star Wars (original trilogy)
Godfather 1, 2, 3 - (Godfather 3 was the lesser of movies, but doesn't fall off far enough to take down the greatness of the first two).
Toy Story

I would say OG SW if it weren't for ROTJ. Empire Strikes Back is still the greatest film of all time

I just want to say how fricking awesome it is to see so many people on here who love these films as much as me. These films are truly the greatest cinematic masterpieces of our time.

I'll give you LoTR is the GOAT trilogy if we can all agree that The Hobbit trilogy didn't need to be made. The Hobbit is a children's book ffs.

Even though it was a children's book, there were many elements that were dark and serious, with some strong themes. It had/has the potential for a great adaptation. But they dropped the ball with it.

the LOTR trilogy doesn't avoid this. ROTK wasn't that good

Blasphemy! In all seriousness though, I'd like to hear your analysis on it.

I’d still go with The Godfather trilogy. The first two are arguably the greatest two movies of all time. I think that makes up for the 3rd being a little lackluster.

If the next John Wick is good I think that'll be the GOAT trilogy.

It's probably my favorite trilogy. I re-watch them every year and listen to the soundtrack pretty often on Pandora when studying/working.

Is the extended cut on any online streaming services? I loved LOTR as a kid but have never seen the extended versions.

Definitely. ROTK is probably my favorite movie. Incredible payoff for a fantastic trilogy. Imagine how good the third SW trilogy could have been had they approached it the way Peter Jackson approached this trilogy.
