Is it fair to say that the Lethal Weapons movies got progressively worse?

The first was a classic and epitomized the "buddy cop" element.

II was still pretty good

III was average at best

IV was awful and all over the place.

very fair to say...

although I probably am in the minority on this, but I always thought part II was even better than the first.

I think this is simply because it did not have to go through Riggs and Murtough fighting and getting to know each other and immediately started off with Riggs as part of the family...also Joe Pesci being in it and Patsy Kensit always made me happy to see, plus "DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!!!"

but yes, they got progressively worse.

Yes, very fair assessment. They got worse and less believable. Always a problem if the characters are fully developed in 1st movie. That was a big part of the allure in Lethal Weapon.

They all suck after 1 and 2.

OK, OK, OK! The second one is great because it has Pesci and her.

First 2 were great and decades later still the best buddy cop movies ever made.

I didn't care for 3.

4 was great just because of the absurdity of it. Definitely a guilty pleasure movie for me.

If you think they went from an A- to a B+, then yes, I think it's fair.

III and IV are still damn good action movies. IV was actually better than III by a considerable amount.

I and IV had the best action scenes.

II had the best plot.

III had the best romance and was the funniest.

Die hard with a vengeance was originally supposed to be a lethal weapon script. That would have been interesting

I thought Chris Rock was a fun, fresh addition.

Completely fair.

That's true of many action franchise. Looking real hard at you, Die Hard.
