There’s not even a first page thread about Rise of Skywalker. The Last Jedi dominated this board for at least a year. That tells me that, like myself, most people just don’t care anymore. I’m not gonna make any bold predictions, but it seems to me this movie only made as much money as it did out of an almost obligation to finish the story people felt. Are new movies gonna have anywhere near the hype? My kids don’t give two flying fricks about the sequel trilogy and I doubt they’re unique amongst the younger generation.

The thread on Marvel’s next slate is underwhelming at best, downright boring really. I don’t even know what a Wandavision is.

Other than the Mandalorian, Disney+ blows.

I kinda hope there is some financial failure in some of these properties. Maybe that’ll force Disney’s hand in purging some of the less creative/more social agenda driven elements from their payroll.

Their live action movies seems to be doing well. How many of those do they have planned?

Seriously... The name of the characters are literally in the title. Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), and Vision

I get what you're saying, for people that weren't into the comics growing up, there's some unknown characters getting movies.

However, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: 3, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, Blade, GOTG 3, Fantastic Four, Deadpool 3, are gonna crush it at the box office.

Because it was a divisive piece of shite.

ROS was a fairly enjoyable mess and a nice antidote for TLJ.

Using threads on this board to determine future earnings of a Corp like Disney seems smart

I get my stock tips on the O.T.

My investments in tricked out heavy duty truck manufacturers and breast augmentation companies have paid nicely.

Most people don't care as long as Kennedy is involved at a high level. Abrams already gets hate from people whether he does well or not but Last Jedi was a turd too.

I somewhat agree with this.

Hype train will roll full steam ahead when they dump Kennedy and put Favreau or Filoni in place as head of Lucasfilm and this shows with the hype of Mandolorian. Yes, baby yoda is the cutest thing to ever grace film but the stories have been good and the whole show has a good feel to it like the original trilogy did. If one of those guys takes over the head spot, the next movie will challenge Endgame for top box office ever.

I agree about Wandavision but I think some of the new movies slated will be some surprises. I am old enough to remember that Iron Man was a dumb throw away character in the 80s but one of the best to translate to film. I think they will find another and the fact they are backing down Captain Marvel as the new lead tells me they are learning from some of the backlash.

I just don't agree with that. I think Disney plus is a great value for what you get. you get to stream all the disney movies and shows that you grew up around at any age group. There are good shows on there that I have never seen or heard of, they just don't have the hype and advertisement that Mandolorian did.

I mean, new Star Wars movies for the first time after 20 years was a big deal. 5 movies in, it's just not that special anymore. That doesn't mean Star Wars is a flop. it's still going to make bank, but Disney really needs to reign in their expectations if they're expecting TFA like numbers for Star Wars going forward.

I have no idea why people kept saying Disney+ was going to kill Netflix, especially with them drip feeding their original content.

I also feel like non-Spiderman Marvel films will take a hit post-Endgame, but at this point, Marvel could film a dog taking a shite and it still reach almost a billion dollars.

Because it was an abortion of a movie that insulted SW fans everywhere. People are more vocal when angry.

Rise was a pretty good movie that brought some normalcy back to us all, so there's not much to say.

They did blow their load in 2019. They had 7 of the 10 top grossing movies

Lion King
Aladdin
Toy Story
Frozen
Star Wars
Avengers
Captain Marvel

Surprised they didn’t push one of those back to 2020.

I’ve seen the trailers for the Pixar movies coming out this year and they are underwhelming

ABC, ESPN, Pixar, etc. will always crush it for Disney as well.

And Marvel could put out anything and destroy records at this point. I contribute to that because I trust their formula to give me a fun theater experience every damn time so I'll keep buying tickets.

People say this about Pixar movies every time. And almost every time they are incredibly well done and popular.

Hell, as a non-comic reader this is what's most impressive about Marvel's 1st phase. Unless you're really into comics I guarantee the overwhelming majority of moviegoers had no idea who the likes of Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Black Widow were. But they sure as hell made them interesting, made them popular, and made people care.

To be honest, before the films I think most people would have known who Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor were by name - but compared to DC's Batman and Superman there wasn't a single Marvel hero that could hold a stick to those two in terms of familiarity and popularity before the movies. Spiderman would be the one big exception.

The job those Marvel movies did to raise the profiles of so many of their characters is pretty incredible.

It's not just Disney+ existence that is going to frick up Netflix. It's the fact that they and just about every other major media company are pulling their content for their own streaming services. The most popular content on Netflix is all from other companies that either have or will soon have their own services.

Also, Disney is going for the HBO approach of quality over quantity. The drip feeding is brilliant b/c it keep conversation about their shows going on for much longer than you get with Netflix and their binge model. A show like Stranger Things, as popular as it is, will never ever receive the same amount of hype as a Game of Thrones or Mandalorian b/c you can watch the whole thing in a weekend when it drops while with the one episode a week model you get slow buildup of water cooler talk that creates it's own hype as people try and guess what will happen. It also makes you much more likely to check out other shows on the service while you wait for the next episode. There are many HBO shows I never would have given a chance if I had been able to binge an entire year of the Sopranos, The Wire, or Game of Thrones right away instead of seeing what else HBO was airing while waiting for each episode to come out.

I honestly think there are several shows on Netflix that would have lasted longer and been much bigger if the full seasons weren't dropped all at once. The binge model is an all or nothing thing doesn't allow for a show to slowly build it's audience. In the binge model if a show doesn't hit big right away it's immediately dead and will be completely buried by the massive amount of content Netflix is constantly putting out. A show like Seinfeld that they now trumpet as a huge get for their service would never have made it past season one in a binge model world.
