Saw it this afternoon. Terrific for all ages.

Thought the short's animation was tremendous. A real shot quality wise at the other major animation studios.

It's amazing what Pixar is able to do. Looking at the trailers before the movies so many of the movies are so clearly geared for kids and no much adults. Other than minions I thought most of the trailers they showed were crap. Pan? you really have to remake a animated classic?

We saw it today as well. My kids are only 6 and 3 though. Both were entertained by it.

It definitely hits the feels a couple of times. Amazing movie.

Not a remake. This is an origin story.

Well, I saw it today with my family, and I'm going to give this film the highest possible rating I can possibly give it: This is the single greatest animated film since Spirited Away. It is a complete masterpiece, and I wholly applaud Pete Docter for making this film.

For background, this year has been complete shite for me, but ironically Pixar has been there for me for a while. When I moved out of the country for 3 years, I took my parents to see Toy Story 3 the day before I moved out of the country. It was a sad yet appropriate movie to take them to and they all balled their eyes out watching it. I've recently moved back in after things have gone poorly for me, but I'm moving back out tomorrow in a high paying job this week.

This, The Grave of the FIreflies, and Schindler's List moved me to tears. Great job Pixar, and this movie will always be near and dear to my heart for reasons I won't share to many. It's a wonderful movie that I can't recommend highly enough, and all other posters I really want yall to see this movie. It is simply spectacular.

just got back as well. went and visited the family and we went and saw it

thought it was very good. didn't like it as much as Toy Story or Up, but it's probably my 3rd favorite pixar flick. pixar can world build like no other

MINOR SPOILERS

that being said, i feel like riley's storyline was a missed opportunity. i think it was a mistake to make it last the course of the 2 days or or so that it did. the constant failures by joy and sadness kinda wore on me and made it feel a tad overlong for me. i wouldve stretched it out and had more real life stuff happen with school and such. Apparently there was an earlier version of the script that was similar to the one I envisioned, but it was deemed too inappropriate.

Also would've left Disgust out. Liked her design and her spunk, but her writing was notably hollow compared that of the others. It's just not strong enough an emotion to include IMO

absolutely loved Lava too

Saw it again today, this time with my dad and little sis. Six hours later it hit me that one scene may take a jab at Dreamworks.

MINOR SPOILERS

Riley's dreams are made at "Dream Productions" which closely resembles the the name "Dreamworks." During the major dream scene, Fear constantly derides the makers, calling an actress horrible, telling them to "pick a plotline", and calling out that every production just has the same old things. Bravo

But it's a little late with HTTYD 1 & 2 being so good

First thing I thought of was Dreamworks. When fear started bashing em, my dad and I lost it

This movie was incredible. The abstract thought scene alone has to win some kind of award.

I thought this was Pixar's best yet, both technically and in story. The detail of the visual 'glow' around Joy blew me away.

Yea, the detail of her skin was insane. Constantly moving and what not.

The voice acting was also absolutely perfect. They could not have cast this movie any better.

I missed that joke, but that is very funny.

Anybody get this subtle joke:

Fear: What was that? Was that a bear?!
Disgust: There are no bears in San Francisco.
Anger: I saw a really hairy guy. He looked like a bear.

The "teeth falling out" / "no pants" gag had me rolling. I just talked to my wife about a week ago about the teeth dreams, how I used to get them regularly and that its a very common thing. She said I was full of shite -

Thanks Pixar!

Spoiler all up in this post

I loved when Fear was making lists of everything that could go wrong at the first day of school. "Quick, who knows how to spell meteor?" "And of course, the worst, would be getting called on by the teacher"

Teacher: "Riley, why don't you tell us a little about yourself?"

Fear: "Aw come on! Right out of the gate?"

Whatever Academy Award it was that the opening credits of Dragon Tattoo won a couple of years ago, that scene should win this year.

$91.3 million opening weekend makes it the all time leader for opening weekend for a truly original film (crushing Avatar's $77 million record).

hmmmm, agree to disagree.

It wasn't terrible, but far from amazing. My kids (that didn't fall asleep) were saying it was dumb. I thought it was predicable and pretty meh.

And, just to be hypercritical, I felt it was highly inconsistent to have two of her emotions be male just to accommodate Lewis Black's casting (though Lewis Black provided what little entertainment there was).

I'm guessing it was completely missed by you that the possible reason for this was because she was a "tomboy"? The mom was a girly mom, thus all female emotions. Bus drive was all Anger.
