My 5 year old thought it was good but not great. But she didn't really understand it and she never laughed.

I thought it was a pretty sad movie. Had the potential to be hilarious but stayed on the sad route. My son and daughter both said it was "alright" after we left. The best parts of the movie were the times you were in other people's head besides the girls.

I think it was well thought out overall but just too sad overall for me to say it was a Pixar top 5. For me it was on the bottom half of Pixar releases.

Well, that was the entire point of the film. If this film were instead an essay, it would be titled "In Defense of Sadness". Sadness is the real focal point in the film, and it's important.

I just didn't like how easily the "Islands of Personality" were destroyed. It was like one bad interaction with her friend and the whole island gone. One time she didn't feel like acting like a monkey "Goofball island" gone. Conversely I didn't like how easy they came back.

They didn't come back though. Once shite hit the fan in this movie, it was pretty damn irreversible. Her islands were all beyond recovery. A new iteration of Family Island came back with a new mixture of Sadness and Joy, and Hockey Island came back, only with Anger at the helm. The other islands did not return in any form. Riley was no longer goofy at the end of the movie and becomes embarrassed by her parents.

It's supposed to be a kids movie.

I thought it was great! I seriously started falling out of my seat I was laughing so hard at an inappropriate point in the movie because I started imagining what's going on in the minds of people I know in context of this movie. I didn't go with kids or SO. Just had a good time.

No it's not. Do you think the average kid can truly appreciate Toy Story 3? Pixar creates timeless and family films. The older you get, really the better they get. They truly believe in the intelligence of their audience and don't dumb it down. They're a great studio.

Just took my 11 year old godchild to it and I thought it was fantastic. One of the best animated movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, that's the single area where the movie falls flat just a bit.

I thought the reason the islands were destroyed so easily was because the core memories were missing (or sent to another part of her brain less easily accessible). Without those core memories which made up the islands, the support for those major parts of her personality crumbled since she couldn't remember the good things that created them.

I saw the movie today with my 8 y.o. daughter and almost 11 y.o. son. I liked it, but I did think it was incredibly sad. Bing Bong's ultimate sacrifice almost had me . My kids enjoyed it, but it may have been too deep for them--I looked at my youngest (who usually has a HUGE Goofball Island of her own) several times and she looked way too serious. I really did enjoy the intricacies of the workings of the brain/memories and the detailed animation of the characters, especially Joy.

I think it means more than that. Think about the most important things in your life when you are 9 and then when you're 14. If you have islands that comprise of your personality, I'd think that several of them would sink for the average person when they grew up. That's largely the point of the film.

Took my girl to see it today. She did some serious boohooing toward the end.

$91.3 million opening weekend makes it the all time leader for opening weekend for a truly original film (crushing Avatar's $77 million record).

SPOILER

Why didn't they send the core memories back via the same tube system that they sent the triple mint gum commercial back?

About 30mins in and I gotta say,,,, little disappointed. Maybe this thread built it up too much, but I'm still waiting on the point of the movie to show itself. Hopefully it gets better

Maybe you should watch the movie and not post on the internet, or look for 1.5 year old threads to bump?
