I don't think CM will have that big of an impact on the events of A4. She will have her solo movie come out right before A4, similar to Black Panther, so that movie will probably do most of the heavy lifting for her entry into the MCU. She will probably have about the same impact in A4 as Black Panther did in IW. I'm not saying she won't be crucial in one aspect, but the story is gonna be about the OG Avengers making sacrifices to ultimately right things.
I realized watching IW, more so after each rewatch, that the Russos really know how to work heart and emotion into a movie at this point. They realize the emotional investment the audience has put into this franchise, especially the original players, and they aren't gonna let up on that in A4. I think they have things set up well at this point, and if they finish A4 off with a happy, but emotional and bittersweet ending, it will resonate deeply with the audience for years to come.
EDIT: I don't really buy Loki somehow pretending to be Hulk. He was acting weird because the Hulk got his arse whooped for the first time, knocked out, and then transported back to Earth(and out of the violent situation before he had time to become more enraged). Of course it's gonna be a huge blow to his ego for a little while, and just as Stark kind-of joked when he asked if he was having performance anxiety. What purpose would it serve if Loki was pretending to be Bruce, and talking to himself/Hulk in private when he tries to convince the Hulk to come out?

quote:Hulk ain't scared, he's petulant. And he's slowing growing up emotionally.
I'd prefer this to "scared Hulk".
When he first appeared, he was basically mindless. Now, by Ragnarok, he's become a toddler, basically. Every action was childlike.
Now he's in his "terrible two's" phase, which interestingly is the amount of years he had control of the body while he was off-world.
He went from being a cherished hero and gladiator, to a tool being used. Earth doesn't love him. Thor won't let him fight Surtur (big monster). Thanos wrecked him. So now, he's going to sit and hold his breath until he gets his way (and maybe some respect). I think we'll deal with some petty jealousy before he's truly back again.
Hmmm, Rocket was able to raise Groot, is he the right nanny to fix the Hulk?

I think Captain Marvel is a misdirection. You can't make Infinity War, and then defeat Thanos by introducing another character after the fact. She may be a key player, but likely not any more than Thor
quote:"misdirection" might be too strong a term; but I don't think she's the one who saves the universe. That just doesn't jibe with everything they've built up to this point.
I doubt it's a misdirection as a very famous actress has already be cast for the role
Right now, we have callbacks to 17 other movies, trying to ferret out ways to 'fix this'. Would be a huge letdown to add another character after the fact, retroactively set her in the 90's, and then have her come save everything, after everything has happened.
As for the very famous actress angle, Marvel's chock-full of very famous actors and actresses. If you look at Dr Strange's cast, that could have been an Oscar film if they wanted, instead of a superhero flick.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone set up a Marvel/Star Wars timeline yet? They're both owned by Disney, so maybe we're getting a crossover... Luke disappeared when Thanos snapped his finger.
So when they go fix this, Luke also reappears!
Just kidding, before anyone loses their minds

Regarding Iron Man and Spider-Man, did anyone else smile just a little when Tony tells Pete "not another pop culture reference for the rest of this trip"?
I mean, considering that's been Tony's MO since the beginning. Hell, he even makes Thor's password "Point Break" for the quinjet.

Yep...it was clearly a nod to seeing himself in Peter. That's been a nice relationship they created between those two and it'l help tie him together with the rest of the Avengers later on I'm sure.

Peter “I just wanted to be like you.”
Tony “And I wanted you to be better.”
Great stuff

they've done a good job developing that in the span of just a few scenes in 1 movie and few scenes in another movie leading in to Infinity War.

This would be preferable to what we got in TLJ.

That’s a truly brilliant analysis of the Hulk.

Just watched it. Yes...I’m late to the party but RL has been busy plus I hate crowded theaters. I managed to go in spoiler free too.
I won’t restate what has been said but will echo the sentiment. Wow. Great movie that did what it needed to. Complaints about backstory, too many things going on, etc. are for those that haven’t invested 10 years in the MCU. This was made for fans and it really hit it out of the park.
I loved Thanos and the depth that he was given. I actually felt pity for him with the Gamora arc and really liked how he basically walked through everyone on his journey. This really was his story and all the other characters where living in his world.
Thor has grown to be my favorite character and he was also well done. Glad to see him reach his potential.
How badass we’re Thor and Caps cavalry moments?
I loved Dr Strange in this too and his sacrifice knowing the only possible outcome for success was perfect.
Question: what’s the relevant backstory for Capt Marvel here? I know she’s been around a while and I still have the XMen comic where she transforms during the Brood storyline (30 freaking years ago). What’s the downlow on her origin as relates to the Infinity Stones. She has to be the key as introducing Adam Warlock (whom I never heard of) seems unnecessary at this point.

When Cap holds back the gauntlet and Thanos makes that loo
Another great scene. I like the way they’ve done Cap justice in a universe where he is pretty much outgunned by some of these guys.

Thor (powered up but helpless in the face of the power of the Stones).
helpless?
he almost singlehandedly swung the momentum of the final battle.
and he hurled StormBreaker right THROUGH the beam Thanos was shooting from the gauntlet.
had he hit him in the head rather than the chest, “game over” (but then no sequel). Even Thanos admitted as much just before snapping his fingers.

Gamora, Hemidall & Loki are permanent casualties since they were physically killed. I have to think Vision is as well,
I hated that about Vision in this movie. He was one of my favorites and they never game him a chance to flex his muscles. He’s a very powerful character that could have wrecked most of the bad guys if given the chance. In the comics he could transform to being diamond hard or completely ethereal. I’d have like to see him do his arm through the chest trick on somebody.

Noticed on the rewatch, one gem or another glowed as Thanos would do his deeds. Red when he manipulated reality on Knowhere, green when he reset Vision, I think he used purple (power, right?) when he smashed through Strange's Mirror Dimension spell. Blue whenever he would transport (space).
Anyone see Soul or Mind used? Mind obviously would only be the lat shot at Thor, in conjunction with the others... that blast was yellow, though. Maybe he made Thor NOT aim at the head?
