This. I mean it's fun the first couple of times then it gets old.
But talking about Star Wars is all well and good and I'm almost more interested in the repercussions for the overall arc and universe, not necessarily just TFA.

Hell I was born in 90 and I love Star Wars. I grew up on it.

I agree. I've enjoyed most of the films but the fake fandom gets a bit tiresome. People are fanatic about it just to say that they're fanatic about something.

I think I'll enjoy it, but I don't really get it. Sort of like the Marvel movies. I like them alright, I don't understand why people obsess over them and it baffles me that so many people know all of this shite so thoroughly.

I mean I grew up with them and my parents (who never go to the movies anymore/don't really enjoy the same TV shows I do) are super stoked to go see the next movie when it comes out. That alone, because my parents aren't getting any younger, makes me genuinely excited for them too.

I'm the biggest Star Wars fan ever. My eyes water every time I warch a trailer. But I hate fan culture so fricking much. You can still be a fan and mint an obsessive 5 yo but a mature adult.

God I fricking hope not. Star Wars is only good because of nostalgia. Watching the original trilogy now is difficult. From the acting to the directing to the special effects to the dialogue, the movies are mediocre. They are groundbreaking in scale even now. Otherwise, they're not great movies. I watch and enjoy them only for nostalgia. Period.
The second trilogy is a dumpster fire.
Star Wars obsession is beyond me. I can respect what they've meant to cinema, but they simply don't stand the test of time.

I think that's accurate for many people. Star Wars is so huge it's safe to be a Star Wars nerd.
Also, piggybacking off another post: it is, in fact, the universe that Lucas started and that has since been expanded by far better artists that's most interesting. Hell, the pen and paper Star Wars RPG is fun just because you get to explore a vast space. But the movies just aren't that good. Any of them.

Just because theyre firing the money machine back up with some new writing everyones just back on board? The franchise will always be the offspring of George Lucas regardless what direction the take it in from here

I guess Batman movies died with Clooney or X-Men with Last Stand, or Godfather trilogy is crap because the 3rd movie sucked.
Crap installments happen. The Prequels to me are mentally purged and never happened. This in my mind will be the 4th installment.
Also the Hobbit movies were not good either.
