I expect it to be "meh" considering none of the principals wanted to do a third movie.

Other than Bale and Caine, who would've needed to be around for all three? Also this franchise was predicted to flop before BB came out.

I think you did, the fall of Harvey Dent was the driving force of the film. Dent was the only hope Gotham had left. I thought it was pretty clear throughout the two films that the presence of Batman is making Gotham worse.

Batman wasn't making Gotham worse, he was inspiring people not to tolerate criminal activity. A less complacent populace = Mafia/Crime lords get desperate.

Dent's purpose was to be the face of the anti-corruption anti-crime culture of Gotham. He could be what Batman could never be, because Gotham would never be able to show his face. He would only be a symbolic vigilante. Dent also was Bruce's White Knight, because if Dent became the new heroic face of Gotham and could take down the crimelords, then Batman would not be needed. He could step away and be with Rachel. Remember this man lost his parents. He has his trusting, loving Butler and he has Lucius, but this is a woman he's loved his entire life. He wants Gotham to be rid of the widespread fear, corruption, and crime so that he can be with the only woman on Earth that he loves and cares about.

That's Dent's purpose. What makes the story so deep is not only does he lose Rachel, but Harvey isn't the White Knight he had hoped for. Not only that, but he is blamed for his death. The face of the new era of Gotham was murdered and it's pinned on him. So he has no one close to them to fight for, but for Gotham. His entire life now is devoted to protecting and serving HIS city, even if they hate him for it.

People will call it meh initially, so as to not come across as a mindless fanboy. . .but an objective and highbrow critic of film.

Then, if everyone else likes it, they will say they "rewatched" it a week later, and it was tits.

Happens all the time with anticipated movies.

Quit being a tool and acting like your opinion is the only one that matters. This isn't the rant or the ot, it's the movie board and we all are pretty relaxed around here. Just bc you have the dark knight in your screen name doesn't mean everybody else's opinion on the matter isn't legit.

This is like "gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room!". Yeah, there's never any animosity in here.

He spends the whole movie jumping through the Joker’s hoops, and even when he physically defeats him, it still seems like part of Joker’s plan.
So, in other words. . .

EXACTLY LIKE THE COMIC BOOKS.

When Batman defeats Joker in the Comics, it is never a resounding victory. It generally falls somewhere between loss and a pyrrhic victory.

In this one, Batman wins, because he believes in the people of Gotham

so deep? Really? This movie isn't deep. It's an action movie. It's about as deep as the Matrix, which is freshman philosophy.

And the murder was not pinned on him. He told Gordon to do it. Gordon didn't want to, but Batman demanded it.

And, he's not devoting his life to the city. Or am I wrong in understanding that Bruce has not given up the Batman mantle at the beginning of TDKR? He tells Gordon he'll come back when needed, but that's not devoting your life to a cause.

No more than this line from Live Free or Die Hard is:

quote:

John McClane: You know what you get for being a hero? Nothin'. You get shot at. You get a little pat on the back, blah, blah, blah, attaboy. You get divorced. Your wife can't remember your last name. Your kids don't want to talk to you. You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me, kid, nobody wants to be that guy.
Matt Farrell: Then why you doing this?
John McClane: Because there's no body else to do it right now, that's why. Believe me, if there were somebody else to do it, I'd let them do it, but there's not. So we're doing it.
Matt Farrell: Ah. That's what makes you that guy.

That's deeper than anything Nolan put to paper in TDK.

Ouch, that's quite damning.

I don't mean that in a negative, just a good point.

You are hopeless man. The fact that you think The Dark Knight is just another action movie tells me a lot about you.

First of all did you even read your own statement before you clicked enter? [Herp]The murder was not pinned on him, but Batman demanded it and Gordon gave in so the murder was pinned on him [/derp]

Seriously you don't understand why they didn't want Harvey's turn to get out? I mean tittyfarts, Gordon basically spelled it out for you. It would undermine everything he had done. The Joker, while in jail, would have ultimately won.

You need to go beat off to some old Stallone movies and leave the modern day action dramas to those who know what they are talking about.

Which is not true considering Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman all inked for three films when they were cast in Batman Begins back in 2004.
