Inception wasn't as deep and mindblowing as people would have you believe. Yes it is a bit confusing on the first viewing and that's what makes people say "OMG SO DEEP AND COMPLEX!! MY MIND!!!!", but if you rewatch it, it's really not that difficult to put the pieces together. As for that ending, stop trying to figure it out folks, it was left intentionally open-ended.

All this is true.

Also, while we're talking about "deep and complex" movies that people love to ponder on, let's get these two out of the way: The Matrix and Donnie Darko.

Matrix was a good action movie with great effects. The philosophical aspects are not great, and are taught in every freshman philosophy course.

Donnie Darko is just stupid.

I thought Inception was incredible. Sue me for liking a film that won 4 Academy Awards and that was nominated for Best Picture. As for The Dark Knight Rises, if it sucks, I'll admit it sucks. It'll probably take me two viewings to really get a vibe for it. I saw The Dark Knight at an early screening and really didn't know what to think of it. The second viewing at the midnight release cemented its awesomeness for me.

I can't possibly see how it would be meh.

I will say it took me years to admit how bad the Star Wars prequels were. Having said that, the one universally seen as the "worst" one, #2, I enjoy the best.

I didn't think it was bad, I just didn't get caught up in the hype. If you took away Nolan's name from it and slapped Michael Bay's on it, then the love it got would all but disappear. It was about a 7-7.5 to me. Great cast though.

Dumb logic. It wouldn't be Inception as we know it. It's good because Nolan crafted something intelligent and original, not because he slapped his name on it.

Not dumb logic. People seem to overrate or give more credit to Nolan than is do. They ignore the fact that he was given stellar scripts for both Batman Begins and TDK and had great casts. When people see Nolan's name the fanboys go nuts and overrate his works. That's why I said if you put Michael Bay's name on it, the perception would go down. Or hell even if you put a no name director's name on it, people wouldn't have the same high opinion of it.

For me, I don't care who directed a movie. If it's entertaining, it's entertaining.

Speilberg gave us nothing but great films. We had no reason to doubt him in any endeavor.

And then came The Lost World.

Lost World was solid to me (admittedly a bit ridiculous at times, but who cares..).

Uh...he wrote/co-wrote the scripts for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The only film that he has made thus far that he didn't write/co-write was Insomnia back in 2002.

That's why people are so impressed with Christopher Nolan. He writes his own shite and (so far) it always turns out to be good shite. He is writing, producing, and directing The Dark Knight Rises. It is HIS movie.

thought TDK was great at first, but subsequent viewings have not held up well.

same here except I wasn't thrilled with the last act from the get go.

HATED Aaron Eckert once he became two face. The movie just went south and the crap about how Batman used the technology to locate the joker at the end...ugh

It's well known that his brother does the heavy lifting on those scripts and that he just tweaks things to a degree.

No it's not. His brother had nothing to do with Batman Begins and wrote the short story that Christopher Nolan used as inspiration to write Memento. Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer came up with the story for The Dark Knight while his brother Johnathan came in to help Nolan write the screenplay. They both co-wrote The Prestige screenplay and Inception was entirely Christopher Nolan's baby.

As far as The Dark Knight Rises is concerned, Nolan and Goyer wrote the story while Nolan and his brother Johnathan wrote the screenplay.

The current series of Batman films are completely attributable to Christopher Nolan. He pitched the idea for a new Batman movie to Warner Bros. in 2003, he brought David S. Goyer on board to help him with the comic book mythology aspect, and he cast every single prominent role in the film personally. Someone didn't just hand him a pair of movie scripts to make into a movie.

If the Movie Board isn't going to admit that Tarantino films are just alright. They sure as hell are not going to say The Dark Knight Rises is "meh" they are to deep in the shite now.

Which has been his weakest movie since he broke out with Batman Begins.

I completely agree...4 Academy Award wins, an additional 4 nominations, including one for Best Picture. A very weak film indeed.
