It's the first of a genre that will come. HollidAction

Action movies based around holidays with a serious tone. Horror movies, comedies, romantic films have tried to do this for decades.

ETA

The Rock will be on his way to pick up extra drinks and whatnot on Thanksgiving cause his big samoan family is getting together and a volcano erupts causing and earthquake and tsunami on/near samoa.

He has to save the village, meanwhile the local criminal empire sees it as an opportunity to take over. anyways, everyone the rock loves including the dog lives and they go on to have a great tanksgiving..and the rock makes a pun about cleaning the streets..and about how cousin Leati finally got a bath.

Die Hard definitely is not. Going to say no to Gremlins too.
Both originally released in the Summer.

Just because the studio fricked up doesn’t make it less of Christmas movie.

This debate will never die. Everyone is sick of it but everyone also won’t change their mind. We need to set up a DMZ and put the “not Christmas movie” crowd on the North Korea side

FFS, is this still even a question - OF COURSE it is a Christmas movie - there can't be a movie without the holiday - the reason for the party, the reason John is on the left coast, "Ho, ho, ho", the reason the cops were somewhat shorthanded and slow to respond, etc., etc.

Seriously? OF COURSE GREMLINS IS A CHRISTMAS MOVIE! The entire reason Hoyt Axton was even in Chinatown was to look for Christmas present - and he found one - A GREMLIN.

I'm pretty salty today, baws.
