I forget what a trippy movie Matrix was

Especially when created in 1999. About AI taking over and growing humans to supply fuel for their data centers…. Crazy.

Why were the Wachowski’s able to make this wholly original game changer movie in 1999, yet release nothing but crap for the rest of their careers? Prolly because it was a ripoff of Dark City!I think it’s still a better movie than Dark City but they 100% lifted from that movie, hence why left to their own devices they put out the hackiest movies including the matrix sequels

I never saw it until like 10+ years after it came out and it held up well. 1999 might be the GOAT movie year.

Dark City is absolutely underrated, but The Matrix is just better on pretty much all levels. If Matrix is a 10, Dark City is a 7.5 or 8. I'm not dogging on Dark City, but The Matrix is a classic. One of the best and most influential action movies ever made.

I bet people lost their shite halfway through and wondered what the frick was happening when Neo woke up bald from head to toe with plugs in his head, arms and legs while covered in goo
If the first 30-35 mins weren’t damn near perfect, idk if people would have stuck around to see how great the rest of the movie would turn out to be. That’s a wild 5-10 min segment to sit through, even now.

Allegedly it was some infamous dominatrix (Ilsa Strix) that they had been paying customers of for several years that broke their brains and convinced that they were women. Quite the rabbit hole if you dare.

It's surprising what those guys turned into considering the movie had so much straight up biblical connection or references in the movie. Almost a copy of the life of Jesus.
