Active voice would be more appropriate.
A site made up a rumor to generate clicks, which many people here stupidly decided to believe. Schafer was never linked to the roll.

The bigger question is if this is real (which it probably isn’t) why do they continue to try and pull Mystique to the front and center of the X-Men when you have so many more prominent characters to work with?
Storm, Colossus, Rogue, Kitty etc. have a lot more runway. The XMen are set for an Avengers 1.0 type build up if they cast and do it right with decades of material to work from.

A. Men.
Mystique is a boring character. Colossus, as you mentioned, is an excellent character who has never been portrayed properly. Deadpool had him as a boyscout, which isn't Colossus, at all, especially as his sister dies from the Legacy virus.
I'd love to see Forge in an X-Men movie. Johnny Depp is perfect for that character, and they both have American Indian heritage. Bishop is an interesting character, and we've never had a decent Sabertooth (Liev Schreiber, as decent an actor as he is, was not cut for that role).
You have dozens and dozens of interesting characters with quality arcs. Rogue needs to be revisited, too. Hell, even Iceman and Archangel are more interesting than fricking Mystique.
Now that I think about it, aside from Professor X, only Wolverine, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler have been done decent justice in the X universe movies.

This is very likely fake news. From what I've read so far, it appears Marvel will start with the very first group of Xmen in the comics: Xavier, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, iceman and beast. No mystique, no wolverine.
