We tried Hulu way back in the early days, but I didn't like paying and having to sit thru ads.

Decided to try it again, because a ton of stuff we like is in there. Holy crap at the commercials, I just can't tolerate it at all. 30 second commercial at front. 90 second commercial after intro. I saw somewhere they claim 90 seconds per hour, but that is horsehiat, it's way more.

Not sure how I watched TV for all those years prior to streaming.

Does anyone here pay for the premium version? Is it truly ad-free, and do you think it's worth it?

Yes the product that’s called Hulu (no ads) does not have ads

It’s like 6 more bucks a month for that version. If the ads bother you that much then sounds like it would be worth it for you.

I did some googlin' and saw that even the ad free version wasn't 100% ad-free, that's why I asked.

I foolishly paid for the Hulu "No ads" after trying regular Hulu and found virtually no difference between the two. Hulu "No ads" explains the tons of ads with the disclaimer, "some producers of content has required ads". Left Hulu for YouTubeTV

not only are the Hulu ads annoying due to frequency, but the volume is always so much louder than the programming. We'll have the volume turned up but at a very reasonable level for whatever show we are watching, and when the ads play they essentially blow out our ear drums.

Not sure what you were watching but I've had Hulu no ads version for years and never get ads unless I'm watching live or recorded live TV.

The Hulu library is really good and no ads is definitely worth it to me. I can blow through shows at a much faster and less annoying rate.

From what I remember... and we switched off of that one a few years back... some networks still had ads on their library content.

It was noticeably less ads, but not completely ad-free.

Definitely this. I guess that regulation they put on broadcasters on ad volumes doesn't apply to steaming.

Also, they play the same progressive commercial every damn time, so not only are you getting ads every 5 minutes, it's the same ones so it's even more maddening. It's like Hulu is daring you to sign up for ad free

I paid for the Hulu, no ad, version monthly for a couple of years. Then one night, while drinking, I saw the annual price for Hulu and foolishly switched thinking, this is a much better deal only to later find out that you are only able to pay for the ad supported version annually. So, when I noticed it the next morning I found that out and decided I would just cancel the annual and go back to the monthly, ad-free, version except if you cancel you don't get a refund. So, now I'm basically stuck with the ad version and even though Hulu had been my go-to streaming service for a long time I have barely watched it in the 2 months since I switched. It's horrible.

Are you talking about the Live TV service or the standard regular streaming service? Because the ads on the streaming service aren't frequent at all, although there are only like 5 of them which can be frustrating to hear the same ones over and over.

Regular.

There are 10 minutes of ads in a half hour tv show. That's not much different from broadcast, in fact, it's more. I checked my digital Home Improvement episodes, and they are 23-1/2 minutes on average without commercials. On Hulu, looks like Last Man Standing is 21-1/2 minutes.

It seems frequent to me, because we watch exactly zero broadcast TV now, so it is more obvious.

I have ads free hulu and literally never see ads or anything resembling ads. It’s my most used streaming service by far.

No, there aren’t any ads. Idk how anyone could put up with the ad version. Same with Spotify.

It's literally $6 more a month for no ads with a huge library that was actually posted on here a few weeks ago.

Hulu and HBOMax are probably the best content/value right now. I struggle at times to watch shows on Prime or Netflix and have to pick and choose.

Yeah it's not great, but they don't have enough stuff I want to watch to warrant paying for the ad free version.

I have it for live tv. Is YouTube live tv that much better? In the process of consolidating our subscriptions and Hulu is obviously our highest bill and we would consider YouTube, but Hulu puts out some solid original content.

Internet tv has to go to the next level before I’m done with cable and its features.

Hulu, Prime and even Netflix are clunky by comparison.
