I just saw one of his movies (The Hard Way) on TV. Which got me thinking about his career. I can’t think of many guys who seem to play the exact same character that have had the level of success he has.

I like the guy.

But did he:

1. Hit the jackpot of being in the right place of the right time?

Or

2. Is he a very good actor?

Back to the future is his legacy.

Teen wolf was great.

people always criticize Tom Cruise as always playing himself in movies but I really think MJF is much more of that.

Teen Wolf is one of my all time fav movies

Family Ties - Conservative Republican in a house of hippies
Teen Wolf - High school werewolf
Back to the Future 1-3 - High school time traveler
Doc Hollywood - Don't even think I saw this one
Mars Attacks - TV Personality (bit part)
Spin City - Political chief of staff

Outside of this, I can't even think of anything else he was in off the top of my head, including the movie you named. Was he basically Marty McFly in The Hard Way?

The Hard Way is a decent 80s buddy cop movie. The Secret of My Success is a really good 80s comedy. The Frighteners was a decent horror comedy directed by Peter Jackson. He's done some good movies outside of BTTF but most were not huge hits. Also the first BTTF and Secret of My Success both involve attempted incest so there's that too.

I think he has one of the most likable speaking voices, which helps.

He's naturally likeable. That always came through.

He's always been a very likeable guy. It hasn't hurt.

He’s a good actor, not great actor, that missed his opportunity to redeem himself as a midlife actor because he is ill. Think John Travolta level career reboots.

Forgot that one...and The Frighteners as well. If I remember correctly, didn't The Frighteners have a cool 3D (lenticular, I guess) movie poster?

Doc Hollywood may be one of my favorite movies of his. Very close to BttF and Teen Wolf.
