I'll watch it tomorrow and bump the thread. Hopefully it's just as good.

29, so I should have seen it for sure. I thought I had seen every shitty 80s and 90s action movie. It was such a treat to be surprised that I haven't seen one of them. It's been probably been 7 or 8 years since I've seen a shitty 80s/90s action movie for the first time. It feels really good.

Ha, now I'm wracking my brain for other shitty movies you may have missed
Well, let's post a list of big movies, not just potential "gems" that slip through the cracks. You know, The Rock, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon etc.

Although honestly, maybe it isn't as crazy to miss movies as it sounds. I'm old (got 20 years on you), we all watched movies at the theater, then we rented from a public video store that was very popular. You got out, got recs from others, there were lists of upcoming releases.

Nothing like that today, people stream things now. I guess if you don't know to look for something, it just passes you by.

BTW there's a lot of 80's music that was huge, and never gets played on the retro rock stations (both on-air and streaming). Some songs and groups just didn't get pulled into the rotation, despite being better/more popular than a lot of what they now play in that format. I'm sure there are plenty of movies meeting the same fate.

Made this gif today for the John Wick thread, but I think it works here, too.

Speed 2 isn't very good. Even a ton of money couldn't lure Keanu back because the script was so bad. The first Speed is one of the better action movies of the 90s.

Sandra Bullock yelling "Ahhh" every 5 minutes is high cinema brah. The only 90s cruise ship movie that tops it is the Treat Williams masterpiece Deep Rising.

I think I've solved why I haven't "heard" of Speed before: because whenever it's said I think of "Crank", another term for meth. So if this has been brought up on this board before, I do think I've been thinking of Crank and not Speed whenever it's said.

And the Crank movies are awesome and ridiculous as well, so I'm going to defend myself with that.

Speed was pretty popular in the 90s. How the hell have you never even heard of it until now? For a movie that's been aired for over 20 years on cable, you almost have to go out of your way to not come across it at some point.

Oh, and it's a very good action movie. Far-fetched, but it's competently made and entertaining. Speed 2 sucks.

As I said, I think I've gotten it mixed up with Crank. When I turned it on tonight on HBO that's what I thought was going to be playing but was surprised by Keanu Reeves.

One of the most insane balls to the wall movies ever made. That and its sequel are must sees.

I was thinking of Crank Yankers for some reason. Sorry.

I've seen bits from both of them but not all the way through.

I'm getting royally bashed on this thread for thinking something similar for years. I'm not going to bash you for that.

He saw it...so, you're down to 3 guys in Western China and 1 guy who lives here:

I was backpacking when it came out and the movie was a hit in Greece, Turkey, Italy, Eastern Europe let alone America.

The entire world has heard of this movie.

Boogie Nights: "You see that movie called Star Wars?"

Diggler: "Yeah, like 3 times."

There's also this actress you've probably never heard of:

Sandra Bullock...sort of started her stardom.

Just roll with it, you won't ever be able to defend it!

At least you finally got to see it, though, and for that, I envy you- you found a legit 90's action blockbuster to experience for the very first time. No CGI, no "oh yeah, I remember this now", but a brand new one to you. And Speed wasn't just some obscure cult favorite, it was a big film that everyone caught at the theater.
It's like finding a 70 yr old bottle of Hennessey in your grandpa's closet.

Maybe OJ overshadowed it due to the fact that it was about a run on the LA Freeway and was released 2 days before he murdered his wife, but that makes it more astounding in my mind.

are you trying to say that the Bronco chase was more entertaining?? Man.. I remember being frustrated that they almost entirely interrupted the NBA Finals for that bullshite.

TV seems like it really hasn't been the same since that whole ordeal (maybe that's a stretch) but whatever. I mean the chase and the trial.. man it got so much coverage. It ended up being this huge thing for all of the wrong reasons.

I watched Speed on Laser Disc a lot that summer. Screw OJ and his attention seeking bullshite.
