Luke sure got the shite end of that deal.

Luke needed the tougher upbringing. If he hadn’t grown up bulls-eyeing womp rats in his T-16 Skyhopper on Tatooine the Rebellion may have ended on Yavin 4.

Or maybe Leia would have blown up the Death Star 1.0? Girl power!

Never thought about them having the same last names until I saw it posted here.

Maybe Skywalker was the Smith of that galaxy.

Thank you! Definitely not even on the planet, maybe not even the same system. Those people were hyperspacing all over the galaxy.

The emperor tells Vader that Luke is the son of Anakin.

The correct answer is the OT was made without the prequels in mind, so he just happened to know it. There was no explanation thought of or needed.

The fanfare answer is that Vader figured it out, was told by so and so, etc.

Well the fact that Obi-Wan and a guy named Skywalker who would roughly be the same age of his kid are randomly running around a Death Star may have clued him in.

Plus he can choke people with his mind, I'm gonna go ahead and say he can probably tell it's his kid with the force.

I'm not so sure about that. I watched the commentary versions of I through VI over the past couple of weeks. George Lucas consistently says that he always envisioned each episode as a segment of one movie. He compares it to the serials shown before movies in the theatre back in the '30s.

He said he wanted to have Episode IV at the top of the opening crawl for the original Star Wars, but the studio wouldn't allow it because they thought it would confuse viewers. Maybe it's just revisionist history, but as of whatever year he released the remastered versions of the first six movies, he insists that he always wanted to make all six and by starting in the middle the story woukd be more interesting.

I'd imagine after the Rebels took out the Death Star counter intelligence and rebel propaganda would be after Obiwan's Jedi trainee.

Vader also found Luke's signature in the Force on the trench run.

I tend to think it is. He reworked the story several times before arriving at what would be Star Wars ("Episode IV" if you must).

In the Spielberg documentary on HBO, there's a story about how these young directors would show each other what they were working on and trade suggestions. According to this story, when Lucas showed the rough cut of SW to his friends, Brian DePalma said it needed something to set the scene and he (DePalma) came up with the idea of a crawl. And it did not say Episode IV in the original version.

But the way Lucas talks now, he makes it sound like he had always planned this tribute to old episodic serials and always had a masterplan for the whole long 9 or 36 episode saga.

Everyone knows that if you run into a random man that has the same last name as you then there’s a very good chance he’s your father. There’s no possible way it’s purelly coincidental. No doubt about it, last names match, well must be the father

In one of the final scenes of Episode III, Lord Vader rises and asks about Padme. The Emperor, being the manipulative and sadistic bastard he is, tells Anakin/Vader that he killed her, not that she died in childbirth. Vader screams, "NOOOOOOOO!" He sounds like he believes the Emperor to me. In Padme's giant funeral precession, she's in an open casket and still looking very pregnant. Her children are separated and placed with Bail Organa and Uncle Owen in secrecy.

Because the prequels were poorly thought out and contract a lot of what happened in the originals.

...and yet he can actively torture Leia, not once but twice (on the Death Star, and then again on Bespin), and pick nothing up on his Force radar.
