I know most consider him good to very good..

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone places him among the upper echelon in the acting ranks

Honestly, I always thought he was serviceable until Thanos in Infinity War. Even through motion capture he did an incredible job creating one of the best onscreen villians in comic history, and I'm including the Ledger's Joker in that as well. Since then my appreciation for his talent has grown.

He had kind of a weird career arc. He started out as a teen heartthrob in Goonies then he couldn't find work because he looked like a grizzled 40 year old Marlboro Man when he was 20. By the time him matured into roles that fit someone who looks like a grizzled 40 year old Marlboro Man, we found out he was a pretty good actor after all.

Him as a younger Tommy Lee Jones in MIB3 always cracks me up.

I thought he did well with Old Boy
Sicario

He played a lot of good parts in my opinion

I have not seen Milk Or Avengers or Guardian's of the Galaxy.

He’s good, but he doesn’t have a lot of range…

I thought he was 6’5”, so he’s a great actor.

He’s got an iconic voice, really took off in 2007 but I wouldn’t say he’s upper echelon

He isn't a lead actor, but he elevates every scene he's in.

I wouldn't want him headlining my movie, but I'd want him in it.

Weapons, Dune, American Gangster. He picks good movies. Like someone said not a lot of range but great at what he does.

He married a much younger, hot chick sorority girl who graduated from UGA I believe.

And to the OP, I think he's great in everything he's in...

No Country
Sicario
American Gangster
Thanos
second Wall Street movie
etc.

Not a lead guy as others have said, but he adds in a very positive way to every movie he's in.
