re: How can DC get things so wrong, and Marvel get them so right?

The Dark Knight has been the only comic book film seriously considered for a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.
And didn't make the cut.
Hell, Logan has received the same buzz.
I get your argument, but it's really reaching.

My opinions are only "shitty" because they conflict with yours. If I agreed with everything you said you'd label me a genius. Apologies for not drinking the kool-aid.

You're labeled a DC fanbpy for arguing with people that say Marvel makes more enjoyable films. Don't argue with facts, and perhaps people might view you differently.
Ah. The Cult of Marvel. I love it. Have you ever met Jim Jones? You guys would get along nicely.

Your opinion is shitty because you said Marvel hasn't made an enjoyable film in 3 and a half years.
Which is asinine.

No, they're shitty because they aren't grounded in reality. You either have shitty opinions, or you're trolling. Pick one.

Another "I'm just too smart for everyone" commnet.

DC movies are generally shite. Deal with it.

Not even close.
The Dark Knight
RT percentage: 94%
RT critic score: 8.6/10
MC score: 82/100 ("Universal Acclaim")
IMDB rating: 9.0/10 (#4 on IMDB Top 250 list)
Logan
RT percentage: 93%
RT critic score: 7.9/10
MC score: 77/100 ("Generally Favorable Reviews")
IDMB rating: 8.2/10 (#168 on IMDB Top 250 list)
Logan is one of the most critically acclaimed comic book films of all-time, but the critical acclaim for The Dark Knight is on another level.

I have always been a bigger DC fan than Marvel fan. The only Marvel comics I enjoyed as much as DC were X-men. And I'm more bothered by your kind than Marvel fanboys.

yes it is.
With all those numbers, why wasn't The Dark Knight a slam dunk?

Link?
I'd think those that got nominated for best adapted screenplay have better claims to this.

Indeed it does. My definition of "right" excludes films that are mere carbon copies of one another.
Marvel has a formula, sure. And it is evident in films like Iron Man, Ant-Man and Dr. Strange. But 1) "Formulas" have existed for a long time, and 2) there are only so many ways to say Introduce a Hero, Introduce a Villain, have them clash, have the hero win.
To that point, Dr. Strange and Batman Begins.....yeah same movie if you want to look at it that way. I'm sure you don't, or won't, but they are.
Not only that, Marvel has Iron Man 3, Thor Dark World, Guardians, Winter Soldier, etc. All vastly different films.
quote:
Your words. Not mine.
Yeah I don't think Marvel or DCEU films are films that I would study in a film class, nor do I need them to be.
quote:
Generally speaking? Of the films I see in a given year, I'd say 10-15.
So out of approximately 200-300 films released per year, wide and not wide release, in any given year, you expect somewhere in the range of 3.0-5.0% to hit the mark? And it's a problem that Marvel films don't hit that mark?
quote:
I'd say The Dark Knight absolutely nailed the tone of the graphic novels it used for its source material. So your above premise is a complete falsehood. It didn't feel like a comic book movie because Nolan wanted you to believe that what you were seeing could happen in reality.
So again, you think the peak of "comic book" films is a film that "didn't feel like a comic book movie." Obviously, for you, reality is more important. For me, and seemingly others, feeling like a comic book is more important than feeling like reality, and probably drives our enjoyment of the film.

Well...The Dark Knight remains the only comic book film to get a Writers Guild Award nomination, a Directors Guild Award nomination, and a Producers Guild nomination. Because of this, most people assumed that The Dark Knight would be one of the five films nominated for Best Picture/Best Director the day Oscar nominations came out. It ended up getting nominated for 8 Academy Awards (no other comic book film has had more than 4 nominations) but failed to get nominated in the two big categories due to a variety of factors - it being based on a comic book, the UK voters not liking it as much, etc.

Outside of Spider-Man: Homecoming, you have to go back to Winter Soldier to find an enjoyable MCU film.
Not even Ant Man?
Jesus, man.

Is it really trolling if someone doesn't care for movies like Ant Man and Civil War? I man, Wow I hate to tell you guys, but there's people out there that don't care for these films.

He rated both 6/10 while saying neither were enjoyable. If you don't see that as dishonest, not sure what else to say.

If, after admitting you enjoy comic book movies, you then say that you find nothing enjoyable or entertaining about them? Yes. That's trolling.

Even if they are the same movie (which they aren't), Batman Begins was the first to do it. It has the originality, Dr. Strange is the boring carbon copy.

All Phase Two films. Phase Three is what is being discussed.

I probably only watch 20-30 films a year. So they're hitting that mark anywhere between 33%-75% of the time for me. But then again....I try not to waste my money on shitty movies. Why go see Wish Upon, a movie I know is going to be horrible, when I can see Dunkirk, a movie that I might end up liking?

Obviously, for you, reality is more important.
Seeing as I probably rank Winter Soldier as my second or third favorite comic book movie of all-time, you obviously have me pegged wrong.

My first comment in this thread was hardly an attack on Marvel. I merely said I found flaws in both franchises. But because one of those franchises happened to be the MCU, you guys came in and straight up gang raped me.
My most neutral and sincere post in this thread has three dislikes and zero likes. You guys are a freaking cult.
