Meh - opinions vary. Now, I'll concede that Ledger put in a GOAT candidate performance for that (or any) type of film, but I'm still partial to the first Avengers here. And I'm a DC comics and Batman fan over all Marvel products, generally.

Problem with Nolan's Batman is Christian Bale. He's extremely unlikeable, on a personal level. That works in American Psycho. Hell, it works in The Prestige. Doesn't work for me with Bruce Wayne/Batman. He's a great actor. The first film was "meh" to me. I've still never sat and watched The Dark Knight from beginning to end in one sitting, but I've seen every frame. I never watched the final one.

Just don't like Christian Bale, particularly as a traditional protagonist.

See? These are my "opinions." They are shared by some, but not all.

Yeah this doesn't work. How many people are serious of upvoting and downvoting as a tool to reveal an opinion? People upvote/downvote for a variety of reasons, so it is an imperfect measurement.

I don't know. You tell me. I know I use it to reveal my opinion in an anonymous way.

And I respect your opinion, even if I disagree with it. Problem is....there are some people in this thread and on this board who regard their opinions as fact. I know Nolan's trilogy of Batman films aren't everyone's cup of tea. To me, however, they were extraordinary films that went on to re-define and positively effect the genre.

Congratulations?

I'm telling you that since people probably use upvotes/downvotes for a variety of reasons, and the fact that you don't know and I don't know, means that you really can't use those votes as "Cult of Marvel" proof.

For instance, I downvoted every one of your "Wonder Woman Achieves another $50 million dollars in Box Office" threads not because I didn't like WW (I did), and not because DC makes plenty of dumb decisions that i don't agree with, but simply because you insisted on creating a new thread for every small increment of its box office instead of either bumping the original thread or creating one "I want to constantly remind people of how much money WW made" thread.

But you still used the down vote feature because you disapproved of something I was doing, did you not?

I think the point is, the downvotes you've been receiving aren't a "Cult of Marvel" thing, they are a "cult of anti Rolltide1987" thing.

I can see the point is beyond reach for you. Continue your "Woe is Me/Woe is DC" campaign.

And that's because they dislike my opinions on Phase Three of the MCU, thus reinforcing the "Cult of Marvel" thing.

I'm saying that it's probably people who don't like RT, people who don't like DC, people who don't like that he didn't spell something correctly, people who randomly clicked the downvote button, people who don't like Christopher Nolan fans, etc.

I'm saying you can't use downvotes to prove anything because everyone uses it differently.

I downvote you because you seem like a pompous, whiny douchebag that thinks his opinion is above everyone else's. It has absolutely nothing to do with Marvel vs DC.

If my opinions ran in lock step with yours you would think me a genius.

My opinions hold no more weight than yours or anyone else's. But when someone calls my opinion shitty I'm not just going to take it lying down. If that makes me a "whiny douchebag" who thinks my opinion "is above everyone else's" then so be it.

That's what you want to believe to feed your narrative. Maybe you get downvoted because of the way you go about things here. Or many other reasons.

Or maybe there's a Cult of Marvel?

Well, by your own post and admission:

quote:

As to the "Cult of Marvel" comments, they stem from the fact that you can't criticize or even question the decisions made by Marvel in some of these films. I came back from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II, explained why I didn't like it, and promptly received 20 down votes within the span of 10 minutes. And it's not like I hated it just to hate it. I had some complaints that I thought were legitimate and got freaking trashed. Almost two months later, Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out and I write on here how much I liked the film and can't wait to see Tom Holland in the role again. Not a single up vote or down vote.

Do you realize your logic here? If there was a cult of Marvel your GotG would receive 20 downvotes, while your SM post would, theoretically, receive 20 upvotes in return. As in, those same people who belong the cult would always upvote pro-Marvel opinions, and always downvote anti-Marvel opinions. I mean, this is specifically what a "Cult" or organized group of people would do.

The fact that there were no upvotes on the Spider-Man post would logically say there is no cult and that possibly your review of GotG was wrong or ill-supported, or it has more to do with you as a poster, or you posted too soon after people were out of the film excited so they over-reacted, or that your review of SM wasn't interesting, or, again, a variety of reasons beyond the films themselves.

Again, as some here do, you are looking for data to support your assertion to place your preferred films in an "underdog" position so you can have someone to fight.

I think it supports the "cult of anti RT"

He says something people don't agree with, downvotes.
Because they don't like him.

He says something people do agree with, no upvotes.
Because they don't like him.

Cult solved.
