Let's be honest. In this world, there are no really good guys save for a few such as Strong when he was Hand of the King. The King is another good guy. Unfortunately in this world, being good gets you run over or killed. Period. Remember those people the Hound hooked up with? Nice folks and they all got butchered. That is this world.

Its fun watching the debate back and forth here because that is to be expected when GRRM intentionally writes his characters in the gray.

You can also tell the show is picking up steam because we are already up to what, a dozen pages now this early in the morning?

Damn, I missed a good GOT fight. Welcome back, my friends.

Well that was Cole's response, that he was her sworn PROTECTOR but doesn't just do whatever she says.

So did Aemond lie to cover for Alicent when he pointed the finger at Aegon for telling him Rheynearas kids were bastards?

After their deaths, Larys admitted to Alicent he had orchestrated their murder. The same way Cole admitted to Alicent that he (AN ADULT) had slept with the princess (who, at the time, was a CHILD). She should have turned both of their asses in, but she didn't because it benefitted her to keep her mouth shut about their crimes.

its sad that you're not smart enough to realize that clubfoot was blackmailing her. alicent knows she has to play the long game and keep that guy happy or he will screw her over or liekly even kill her.

regarding cole, turning him over to the king would be something a dumb person like Ned Stark would do. she had no allies nor leverage in court at the time with Otto being dismissed, so her letting cole go and bringing him to her side was a stroke of genius.

No, when she told him to remove the eye of one of Rhaenyra's kids he told her that he was sworn to protect her, not to carry out all of her demands.

I'm sure it was commonly spoken in their household so it probably wasn't a lie necessarily. But Aemond was on a power surge so he may have chosen to blame Aegon instead of Alicient to improve his position

Let's get a dragon count. I don't know the dragons names so I'm just listing the characters that have dragons.

Team Alicient:
Aegon
Aemond
Creepy sister?

Team Rhaenyra:
Rhaenyra
Daemon
Bastard 1
Bastard 2
One of Daemons mixed daughters

Neutral:
Visenya. She doesn't seem to want any part of this. It'll be interesting to see if she can convince Corlys to stay out of it. Or if he joins Daemon or convinces any of the bastards or his grandchildren to leave Daemon

Aegon: Sunfyre
Aemond: Vhagar
Helaena: Dreamfyre

Rhaenyra: Syrax
Daemon: Caraxes
Jacerys: Vermax
Joffrey: TBD
Baela: Moondancer
Rhaena: TBD

Rhaenys: Meleys
Laenor: Seasmoke

ETA because I forgot him: Rhaneyra's son Lucerys, and his dragon Arrax

I think much like GoT, the people you root for are those that mostly, or exclusively, choose violent immoral acts only as a necessity or out of survival/justice, and not as a selfish act to ascertain greater station/power.

Which is why Tyrion/Varys are sympathetic in a way Littlefinger is not. Why Rhaenyra is increasingly becoming the consensus viewer preference and Alicent is losing supporters by the episode.

Aegon is a shite, and is always fricking with Aemond (the pig joke), so Aemond was like I can frick over my brother here

And yeah, it's not like it's some secret thing that only a couple people have said, he probably could've named a dozen people who have talked about the kids being bastards.

This moron: Go team Alicent! Cause she is honorable, moral, and dutiful

Also this moron: *Lists all the ways she is constantly dishonorable, immoral, and abdicating her duties*

And his brother was too stupid to put the blame on someone else in a way that would be advantageous to him, which doesn't bode well for Alicent and Otto's plans to make him king. All of the options in the world and he goes 'JFC dad everyone knows lol'.

He's been too in his feels this morning about how much of a whore Rhaenyra is for her consensual sex and Alicent this great dutiful patriarchal wife to not be serious in thinking he is making good points

The fact there is this much division and you all are lining up for Team Green or Team Black, just like the episode, shows how good HoD is. Dang good episode.

I like Alicent. Of everything that she has done the only thing I question and where she made a mistake is when she turned down the marriage offer that would have binded the houses. She had legit reasons for that, because R's kids are bastards, and she wasn't about to marry one of her true blood kids off to a bastard. So I understand her character.

At the same time I like Rhaenyra. I understand what her struggles have been being married to her gay husband who can't produce. Being named a Queen heir that half the Realm won't accept. She's in a tough spot too.

That's why this show is so good. Personally like it better than GoT because it's not so expansive. It's a war between families, keeps the story tight which improves the quality, IMO.

Thats a pretty big one considering it's the literal difference between two generations of peace between the most powerful houses and further escalation towards protracted Civil War.

I too can sympathize with Alicent's situation, she got a raw deal in life(at least as far as being uber nobility can suck) it's just hard to root for her after that. She chose trying to satisfy her selfish desire to punish Rheanyra for her own jealousies and vindictiveness instead of sowing for lasting peace.

The fact that boiled over into her frustrations being interpreted as a green light for Larys to carry out a massacre and she cozies up to him afterwards. After wanting to cut the eye out of a child without even bothering to determine context/fault. Her ability to remain sympathetic wains by the epsiode IMO

That was probably my least favorite episode. Laena's funeral was so bad and stretched out way too long. The kid acting dragged it down a bit. The Valeryon kids are so bad. But they said it was the very first scene they filmed for the show so it makes sense that the emotions and acting didn't fit well with the situation.

Alicent has just become a color blind idiot. I think any other king other than Viserys would have had Alicent thrown out into the street or killed. You can't attempt to kill the kings daughter, heir to the thrown, much less in front of everyone, and not be punished. And of course her dad thinks it was a good thing.

Still the best show on TV right now, but that was a weak episode. Aegon riding Vhagar was one of the better dragon riding part on this and GoT combined. That was really good. Felt more like what riding a dragon would be like. Old and all, she is still a badass dragon.

Others have mentioned it, but in terms of the arc of the overall story, we are still in the prologue/set up.

Supposedly they actually considered starting the story later in the timeline but thought they needed this set up.
