Haven't read through the thread but watching last night I was thinking in my head that this board is going to hate Rhaenyra now because she is now going to be a whore in their opinion. Dany was blasted on here because she slept with three guys

Thats one of the (only)problems with this series, I feel for anyone that will be getting into ASOIAF for the first time with House of the Dragons.
It's spoilers galore littered all over GRRM's work and adaptions. And even in places you wouldnt expect. For instance go read Dunk and Egg and there is a ton of just random spoilers dished out in seemingly inauspicious banter between characters.
Or in HBO's GOT, just littered into a seemingly non-essential conversation Joffrey mentions some huge spoilers in I think it's season 3.
If you are watching HOTD for the first time, or want to go exploring other works(or rewatch/reread them), there's a pretty decent chance you'll hit some spoiler landmines without warning.

So would yall recommend reading into and ahead of the show? I stopped where the show story began
that depends on if you're the type that likes to be surprised vs the type that likes to revel in the full experience of the story being brought to life on screen.
i've been in both camps...
for game of thrones, the story line was available from the books up until the end of season 5 but i chose not to read it. therefore the shock factor of seeing (but not expecting) Ned's death, red wedding, jon snow death etc was a huge memorable payoff.
this time around for HOTD, i decided to read the book but i'm really enjoying seeing the story with my own two eyes instead of imagining it...even though i know what happens.
my advice....the story gets REALLY dark and chaotic from here on out so i think you would get a huge payoff by just watching the show instead of reading ahead.

Coming of age is 16 in this world, but I believe she is supposedly 18 in this episode (believe she was 14 in the previous).
If you go off what Laena Corlys said, it's 14. She told Viserys that he wouldn't have to bed her until she was 14.

That dude can’t even get the spoilers right but still should be banned regardless…dumbass

Who was that smug piece of shite anyway? The only thing that could have made that scene better is if Rhaenyra quietly asked her aide for an audience with that kid after he killed the said smug piece of shite.

The Daemon/Rhaenyra scene felt very taboo, slightly cringe. Interesting contrast with the Criston sex scene. They really went for romantic and sexy imo.
If y'all haven't watched inside the episode, they specifically mention Daemon's impotence. I thought it was interesting that the episode was directed by a woman.
This episode shows that Rhaenyra is much more devious than she looks. Also, every time I think the king is gonna go against her, he sides with her. I was surprised with the firing of Otto. The king is fairly level headed imo. However, he has definitely made some mistakes.
Daemon is wild. And I almost forgot about the kid killing that guy. That was pretty bad arse

He was a member of House Bracken which has a long running feud with House Blackwood both of whom are sworn to House Tully of Riverrun. Not sure if it is ever mentioned in the GoT show but it is discussed in the books so I think this was just a nod to book readers. Loved how the little guy was ready to throw down though. You can't just throw the word "craven" around back then and not answer for it.

Really not that far fetched.
Benjamin Franklin himself had a herbal cocktail he published in one of his textbooks for ending the "misfortune" of an unwanted pregnancy.
And all the way back to the Greeks there is text of concoctions to help end pregnancies, or even serve as birth control.
quote:
The ancient Greeks relied upon the herb silphium as an abortifacient and contraceptive. The plant, as the chief export of Cyrene, was driven to extinction; it is suggested that it might have possessed the same abortive properties, as some of its closest extant relatives in the family Apiaceae. Silphium was so central to the Cyrenian economy that most of its coins were embossed with an image of the plant.[20] Pliny the Elder (23–79 CE) cited the refined oil of common rue as a potent abortifacient. Serenus Sammonicus wrote of a concoction which consisted of rue, egg, and dill. Soranus, Dioscorides, Oribasius also detailed this application of the plant. Modern scientific studies have confirmed that rue indeed contains three abortive compounds.[21] Birthwort, a herb used to ease childbirth, was also used to induce abortion. Galen included it in a potion formula in de Antidotis, while Dioscorides said it could be administered by mouth, or in the form of a vaginal pessary also containing pepper and myrrh.[22]

Interesting how they flipped who won that "duel" from the books, not that it's relevant in anyway. Wonder why they did that.

Great non blood and guts episode with fantastic acting and story telling while laying the groundwork for the rest of the season. I can only hope they learned from the colossal failure of the ending to GOT.
At this point, 4 shows in, it's best series on TV today.

I don't think so in this case. He was 100% right about Otto. It's not an option to keep Otto and just filter what he says. A king must have a hand that he can trust the guidance from.
