Not my favorite episode. It wasn’t terrible, but spent too much time playing Where’s Aegon before they found him. Other than that it was fine.
It was pretty important for them to establish the race between Alicent and Otto to be the first to get to Aegon, and the result will have some pretty significant implications moving forward.

In terms of revealed in Season 1? Only 4 dragons so far: Green: Vhagar (Aemond) Black: Syrax (Rhaenyra), Caraxes (Daemon), Meleys (Rhaenys)
There have been more than 4 revealed so far.
You see seasmoke, vermax, and dreamfire as well.

This show is so good it actually makes me more angry about GoT
I'm hoping for the GoT reboot in 20 years that makes up for the sins of seasons 7 and 8.

Meh, I don’t think so. Her scorching the royal family in plain view would sent the entire realm into absolute chaos

20 years, that feels about right for when we'll see the Winds of Winter, probably on GRRM's death bed and still slightly incomplete....good luck on A Song of Spring though

They were lucky that Daemon was not the one on the dragon. They would all be dead and he would still be circling the city toasting anyone out and about.

For like a week, then the only constituency with dragons and control of the seas would come back and re-establish order pretty easily.
Inform the Houses, as was done before, bend the knee or feel the wrath of the entire dragon and naval army raze your lands or remove you by force and install allies. I'm guessing it would be a pretty effective stick. Then offer the carrots in abundance to those that do.
Another reason I just wish they had gone for a different approach, or at least done a better job establishing to the audience a rationale for why she would kill hundreds of civilians just to mean mug the Greens and then ride off leaving them injured in terms of sympathy in the eyes of the people and allow the Greens to plot her family and allies destruction.

if I’m not mistaken rhaenys buzzing the tower with her dragon is not in the book. It’s confusing why they added that at all but it was pretty cool

I’m surprised Aemond didn’t jump down the hole, get Vhagar, and go after her.

It was just a stupid action dragon moment that the show felt it needed to do to crank up the action/drama. It wasn't very well thought out and is kind of ridiculous on its face.

What is GRRM's involvement? Similar to the early GOT days when he had some real input?

And that is pretty much exactly what Condal and Co. said on the BTS lol.
Of course they tried to sell it, but they literally said "we wanted to have this big moment for Rhaenys" and, ok, but dont do it at the expense of reason and logic. Or fail to establish that at some point so it's clear.
Maybe they do in episode 10 and this will all look silly pre-emptive, but we'll see

Rhaenys showed mercy right there... It was a message sent to Alicent.
And yes Rhaenys will have her moment in the show - last night wasn't "the moment".

Same with her not just dracarys'ing the whole family.
Scenes like that are somewhat meant to be open to interpretation.
My take is that is that she was ready to do it until Alicent stepped to the front and shielded her son. That made Rhaenys show a bit of mercy from one mother to another.

Y'all are way overthinking it. Rhaenys needed desperately to get out of Kings Landing. She didn't want to leave without her dragon. She got her dragon easily b/c everyone was at the coronation and before leaving, wanted to send a quick message/wanted to roast them and changed her mind.

People can read into whatever they want to for sure, but that is a very Ned/Robb way of approaching this advantageous situation, for a character the show almost beats you over the head with the same two things to know about Rhaenys which was: she loves and wants to protect her children and honor her immediate House and nearest kinship, and she was passed over as ruler but would have likely been as wise and good as Viserys, or even better, according to those that know her. Displaying a near cynical realist perspective on others, but also holding a calculated and even temperament where others act emotionally and in pursuit of ambition.
Which, that scene sort of shows the opposite. Her move was short-sighted and reactive, leaving hundreds or more dead for no achievable end, all but guaranteeing protracted war that will kill thousands, and puts her family in immediate peril while giving the citizenry a perfect emotional reason to reject that challenge to the usurpers.

I think her main goal (after finding out she was a prisoner and those who didn't bend the knee were getting killed) was simply to get out of there with her dragon. She wasn't looking for vengeance. She wanted to escape but to show strength while doing so. When she saw the situation in front of her, maybe she had an impulse to roast them and resisted.

Like I said, if that is the logic, it comes off very Ned/Robb
Theres a giant opening where she could have just flown out of, toasted any guards in her way, then circled back if she wanted to show her frick you face. All while sparing the citizenry the show just got done telling us is actually pretty important to not piss off, even if they seem powerless and empty on the surface.
Like i said as well, maybe we get clarification in the next episode, and all this criticism and speculation becomes irrelevant or too pre-emptive.
