Are they not supposed to have an opinion on the matter? If I don't watch this show, can I have an opinion about the casting?
The fact is that these show runners are in a race to see who can announce how diverse their shows are. If they just did it and let people watch, it would probably go somewhat unnoticed by most. But they can't get any diversity credits that way.
