A co-worker and I are having a discussion about how Hollywood changes movies and/or makes them more PC in the process. He said the movie Pearl Harbor was from a book and not based off of events. He's convinced Hollywood doesn't change things in any form. Ideas?

They change stuff all the time. For a recent example look at the end of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Every single one of them. Even book adaptations are just that adaptations to the Hollywood system.

There isn't a thing that you watch from mainstream media that isn't designed to propagandize in some way. Whether that be political, economic, religious, combos of the previous or some other motive.

It sounds like you are talking to a barely functional retard. I wouldn't even bother.

More likely that the OP is misrepresenting the other persons argument so that more people will agree with him

Good grief the stupidity at times. No, the coworker said that the movie Pearl Harbor was based on a book.

Just about every single one of them.

Braveheart is one definite instance.

Gladiator.

Caddyshack 2.

Hollywood has changed every book it has ever filmed -- if not for politics then for censorship, budget limitations, time constraints, location logistics, stars' egos, etc etc etc...

Too many political examples for one post:

Bonfire of the Vanities -- the judge in the book is a crusty Jew, and Alan Arkiin actually filmed the role. All his scenes were cut and replaced with Morgan Freeman -- allegedly so the film would have a sympathetic black character.

Sum of All Fears -- villains in the book are Arabs.

Remember, half the production $ in Hollywood comes from the Arabs or the Chinese

The Patriot is another example.

To be fair here, movies like The Patriot and Gladiator don't claim to be based on a true story.

Depends!

The ending of Inglorious Basterds is a pretty good bow to arguably Tarantino's finest movie. Does it change history? Yes and it works in the context of the movie and even in the context of history because its more satisfying (which is the underlying premise of the movie, anyway)

Yet, they make something like Man in the High Castle or For All Mankind and thats just useless drivel because history itself was ten times more satisfying than what they are trying to portray. Im an Apollo geek anyway so them hand waving this country and mankind's greatest accomplishment to the ruskies who could barely wipe their arse in space is insulting, quite frankly and not worth my time.

Remember The Titans is almost pure fiction.

Apple literally has all of their products made in China and Disney has literally altered, added, and deleted scenes from movies in order to obtain a release in China.

Gladiator does. There was an emperor Commodus, and he did fight in the Colosseum, but he wasn't killed there, and almost none of the other shite happened.
