But what made this episode so good is that it shows that Barney and Ted's two distinct worldviews ARE BOTH VALID. Ted waits for the universe to give him a sign and Barney accepts the challenge and makes his own destiny. While Ted waited for the universe with Robin, Barney made the universe his own. In the short term, it seems that Barney has made the better decisions than Ted, seizing the day and all that.
But it is Ted's patience and faith in the universe that will lead to him finding his one true love, the Mother. So his view may be more circuitous, but it is also the right path for Ted.
I also liked how this show sets up that Barney changed himself because of his own decision and of course, challenge accepted.
Completely agree with all of this

Havent read the thread, but was anyone else kind of thrown a curveball with this episode? Granted I actually liked it more than some of the others this season. It was just unexpected for them to spend this much time away from the wedding and us finally seeing the mom again.

My brother-in-law just brought this up and I tend to agree:
At this point the Mother is Ted's silver medal, because the Ted character has been written to pine nonstop over Robin and not get over her.
Disagree. I think the mother will provide a much needed revelation that what he felt for Robin wasn't true love and thus it will mend his relationship with Robin in a way.

This is what made it a great episode. I miss the bar, the wedding is getting old.
I don't think it had one lily drink joke or any of the black lady and marshall. Both very big pros to me.

and i'm guessing robin meets her when auditioning bands
I dont think so, remember the band they originally hired cancels and Ted sees the Mother's old roommate on the subway a week before the wedding and she tells him that the mother's band is free. So I would assume they would never audition on such a short notice gig.

good point.
i do think robin somehow has a hand in setting up ted with the mother, though.

I enjoyed this episode a lot. Best part was Marshall back with the gang.

I was thinking about how this season would end with Barney and Robin. Remember the episode where they followed Robin around and you thought she had kids, but it turned out she was day dreaming about that? Didn't Ted tell his kids later that Robin would travel the world and be happy, yada yada yada. Is that a sign that things don't end well with them, or is it just convenient that they never say she traveled the world alone and Barney is likely with her?
While writing that, I thought of this. Has Barney or Robin ever been in the flash forwards when they are older? If so, how were the two of them handled as far as interacting with each other? I am blanking at the moment.

Looks like another filler. Yawn.

For real, they could have cut half of these episodes out this season

Well, I got high and forgot to watch. What happened?

Pretty boring episode, not too much happened either. I did LOL at the sabotage part when beastie boys kicked in, but other than that it was super meh.

Jesus what a terrible episode. The musical part about which dad would bang Barney's mom might've been an all time low.
The bad thing about the concept for this season is that the fillers are going to be that much worse.
