She is. She's the only redeeming quality right now.

They keep going back to the same well over and over again. Its annoying.

The globetrotter bit wasn't bad, but wasn't really done all that well. It really feels like they're just going through the motions.

May not have moved the story

what?

We saw the mother, saw how Ted decides to move to Chicago, and how Barney decided to go after Robin again

Perfect episode IMO, got away from the wedding setting, Marshall back with the gang, classic Barney, no bitch Lily, and saw another of the gang meet the mother

Are we going to see how the gang meets the wife one by one? Lily was first obviously now barney..is that just how the writing worked out or do yall think we're going to see each person individually meet her somewhere along the line?

They've already said they would meet her one by one.

My brother-in-law just brought this up and I tend to agree:

At this point the Mother is Ted's silver medal, because the Ted character has been written to pine nonstop over Robin and not get over her.

I missed the first 5 min or so so I didn't get the set up. Just assumed they were regular flashbacks.

second best episode of the season behind only the opening one. now have 2 of the 4 done in terms of everyone else meeting the mother before ted does. marshall likely meets her at the wedding, and i'm guessing robin meets her when auditioning bands. excellent episode and it actually advanced the plot

It's pretty cool that Ted's wife got hit on by Barney and turned him down.

Definitely this. It's annoying as frick now...Ted is SO hung up on Robin that it's almost distracting. I realize that he likes (loves?) her a lot, but goddamn, let it go. I'm sure they just keep bringing that up to show us how perfect the Mother is for him because she can make him finally get over Robin fully...but it's fricked up for him to still have feelings for her, which I realize this episode was set 6 months ago or whatever, but still.

That being said, I liked this episode.

Exactly...all of this (minus the "perfect episode part).

I like that we're seeing everyone meet the Mother before Ted. That way, we know they all will know/like her and then be like "Yeah, ya'll are perfect for each other."

if he does come to realize that she's more perfect for him than robin, i don't see how she's a silver medal

if anything, it may help him realize he and robin weren't really ever meant to be

I just mean that he is SO fricking hung up on Robin...even to this point where she's about to literally marry his (dual) best friend. It's to the point where it seems like no matter who he marries, he'll always have that "what if" in his heart about Robin.

I take the whole thing as meaning he needed the "robin complication" to make his path cross with the wife.

If you don't like the last two episodes, you simply don't like this show and you shouldn't be watching. Because, honestly, they were a perfect distillation of the show and also pretty funny. If you're bitching now, you're just watching so you can bitch. And that's fine, but I honestly don't understand what you're getting out of it.

First, I don't get the "silver medal" theory at all. The show is clearly setting up that as awesome as Robin is, the Mother is even better, and also perfect for Ted. I know a lot of fans hate the Robin/Barney relationship, but I think they are wrong. The show constantly demonstrates how they are great for one another, especially in the way that Robin has forced Barney to grow up and stop being a quip delivery machine. (I also know many people like "old Barney" better, but that's because he wasn't a fully realized character and was just a joke delivery system -- I like that he's actually a real person now)

But what made this episode so good is that it shows that Barney and Ted's two distinct worldviews ARE BOTH VALID. Ted waits for the universe to give him a sign and Barney accepts the challenge and makes his own destiny. While Ted waited for the universe with Robin, Barney made the universe his own. In the short term, it seems that Barney has made the better decisions than Ted, seizing the day and all that.

But it is Ted's patience and faith in the universe that will lead to him finding his one true love, the Mother. So his view may be more circuitous, but it is also the right path for Ted.

I also liked how this show sets up that Barney changed himself because of his own decision and of course, challenge accepted.

but still, no moment in this most recent episode matched the final scene of last week's episode. Which made me all verklempt. Talk amongst yoursleves....

Agreed completely. I've always said that Robin and Barney don't bother me, but I never watched the early seasons and wasn't as attached to "old Barney."

I already know I'm gonna get a little weepy when Ted and Mother lock eyes and speak for the first time. I'm a sucker for shite like that.
