Lily is a horrible character. She’s unwatchable.
Marshall was good early on but they turned him too gay by the end.
Barney is a solid character.
Ted’s alright.
Robin is better than Lily but she’s pretty annoying at times.

I think it’s safe to state that other than Marshall, all of the characters are horrible people.
Lily is the worst.
Barney is more neutral. He is a scumbag, but he is a self-aware scumbag. He lies and scams to get laid. Women lie and scam to get married.
He sucks for women, but he will throw himself in front of traffic for his bros. . .unless he is pranking them.

I just rewatched the whole series. First time thought ending sucked but rewatching it knowing the ended made every episode so much better and the ending perfect

Y’all need to remember that everything you saw about a character was ted trying to convince his kids to be okay with him banging aunt Robin.
He didn’t like Lilly meddling, so she was probably exaggerated some is his retelling, just like Barney.
That way the kids take his side when she tries to intervene in whatever happened after the finale.

HIMYM was one of my favorite shows but I can’t bring myself to watch reruns because I hated the ending. It just ruined the whole show for me.

I was the same way, but was looking for something easy to watch while I work from home. There are several episodes that if viewed outside of the overall story are excellent in a rewatch.

They went to the "_____ is so depressed" well (most of the time Ted) way too many times that it's just not an enjoyable rewatch for me

I hate that show because the creator started the show with how he wanted to end it and insisted upon forcing that ending instead of really looking at how the characters had developed over the course of the run. Everyone regressed just so Ted could end up with Robin and they could show that clip they shot ten years ago when the first season started.

I doubt I will ever rewatch the series but if I'm ever flipping channels and it is on I usually stop.
It is one of the few shows I watched live start to finish and I was the same age as the characters when it originally aired so it connects me to that time in life. HIMYM will always be special because of that. (Insert gayyyyyyyy gif)

People have misplaced anger about the ending
The actual ending isn’t bad considering where they plot was at that point. Honestly makes a lot of previous story telling decisions from previous seasons make a lot more sense
The real issue is they over extended themselves on the seasons due to the popularity of the show, so you have this really weird and shitty final two seasons that trace and retrace old plots just to buy time to the finale, and then we get the final product.
So the real issue is the final 2-3 season, not directly the finale

The ending was revealing the entire show was “here’s why I settled for your mother and since she died and who I actually wanted is available I’m gonna take another shot.”

Which makes sense given that the story he’s been telling his kids involved robin and his chase after her constantly.
