I'm saying it's amazing how you just see the Joker, not Heath at all. He completely dove into that character and it shows. He perfected that role

Watched it last night and thought this exactly.

FWIW he also played a pretty good confused cowboy IMO.

Loved Ledger in the Dogtown movie. You watch Skip in the Dogtown doc, then watch Ledger's performance as Skip... just amazing.

Heath Ledger's Joker
It is obviously am awful situation and he passed too early.

Honestly, his portrayal of the Joker, in my opinion, is one of the best performances I've ever seen. I really do think he was that talented and that is what makes it so sad.

It truly is one of the best performances I've ever seen

all he really did was do a decent Tom Waits impersonation.

Honestly I think the tongue thing is what really put it over the top, oddly enough.

Yeah it was the mannerisms. Same thing Nolan said about Hardy's Bane, its the physical aspects that made him. The eyes and expressions...the way he walked...the way he stood...everything. Hardy didn't have as complex of a character but he played his role perfectly.

I don't. Just let it be IMO. The "Joker said 'we are destined to do this forever' comment tells you he was going to be a big part of TDKR" argument is one of my least favorite debates on the planet. Like the OP said, yes it is very sad he died. But why dwell on the what could have been. I actually prefer having different villians so you get more versatility in what you can do with the film. Unless it was going to be something minor like Scarecrows role in this last one. But then you would have had people complaining about there not being enough of the Joker. Even of Ledger wouldn't have died, I like how this movie played out. Tied in much more to Batman Begins.

Ledger's performance was great. No question about that. Greatest ever? No. No one would be talking about greatest performance ever had he not died.

That's not true. I saw his real last movie, Dr. Parnasus, and I didn't think it was anything special just because it was his last. With the Joker, he put his heart and soul into that performance.

And yet, Tom Waits doesn't come off as a sociopath with a genius level IQ. Ledger did a good Waits impression...if Waits's hobbies included murder and psychological torture instead of music.

Playing the Joker wore him out too...it is eerie watching it.

100% agree.

When I see him in other movies (the Patriot, A Knight's Tale just to name a couple) it's hard to believe it's the same guy.

I'm ok with the Joker not being in TDKR. Ask yourself what else they really could have done with his character. At the end of TDK he reveals his true motives. The Joker achieved legendary status in TDK and that's where it should be kept.

He said we are destined to do this forever. Nolan obviously had something up his sleeve. I mean there are so many comic story-lines they could use.

This is what I enjoyed about it the most. He wasn't the the Nicholson Joker where he played himself with paint on, he was a truly insane agent of chaos who turned into a completely different person
