I think the Game of Thrones show is way better than the books.
I can't watch the show because of how badly it butchers the wonderful story laid out in the books.

I'd definitely say you're wrong. Really the only season I think its a fair comparrison is the first season, and that's about it.

Hunt for red October.
Edit. For the record, the op was books just as good as the movie, not movies better than the book. HFRO is one of my favorite books, and I love the movie. Changes were made due to obvious constraints but didn't detract from the story.

Did the Russian admiral also have a Scottish accent in the book?

No Country For Old Men
Although the book and movie are basically word for word the same.....movie leaves out one chapter that isnt very critical

The Godfather/Godfather 2. The book was ok at best.

Huh? no way man that Dennis Lehane can write a book!
I agree that Fellowship was better than the books.

The first two Harry Potter movies were just as good as the books but the books were really short so they had most of the details in the movies.

Blade Runner -- the book and movie were different enough that the comparison may even be unfair, but the movie was superior regardless
The Godfather -- Puzo simply isn't a good writer of prose. His storytelling is fine, but his prose style is pretty much hack-work. The movie was better by a country mile simply because the acting on the screen was easily better than the writing in the book.

I thought that The Firm movie was just as good as the book. The ending change actually improved from the book in a way, since he relied more on a plan than on pure luck to work it out.

IMO, The Giver. Despised the book, didn't hate the movie.

Has anybody said Blade Runner yet? (Yes I know it was from a short story of a different name)
I have to give Silence of the Lambs some credit. Read the book when it came out - gave me the creeps. Went to the movie when it came out - STILL gave me the creeps (in a kinda the same but different way) even though I already knew what was going to happen. That's not easy to do.

Gone with the Wind and Lonesome Dove equalled the books. Forrest Gump comes to mind as one far superior to the book.

Inherent Vice for this year. Pynchon is a brilliant writer (Inherent Vice isn't even close to his best) and I think PT Anderson did a bang up job with the movie.

Just fantasy sequences. Lame..
There was a fantasy sequence by Mrs. Brody, but Hooper actually nailed her as well.
