The super serious tone is a major turn off. And the lighting is absolute shite.

Acting looks okay but it seems like a lot of the charm from the characters is gone compared to the original films. Hard pass for me.

Chris Columbus seems like the only director who realized that Harry Potter at its core is a children’s story. The lighting and music in the first two films epitomized this.

I don't understand the point of this series. it's the same characters and same timeline as the movies

HBO Max is trying their best to milk the franchise

You're right that the first couple of books are definitely for millenial children and millenials remain the biggest portion of the fan base. The same millenials who have no problem dropping some cash on HP merchandise or visiting a HP theme park in Florida.

I am looking forward to the series simply because I have enjoyed the films and the books (in that order) and would like to see that world fleshed out a little more since a lot was left out in the later books. I just hope they learned their lessons from the Fantastic Beasts series.

Yes the first two films are by far my favorite because they are whimsical and capture the child like wonder of the story. It got a little bit too dark and brooding later. I guess as the kids got older and the threats got more real that made sense, but the first two capture the feel best.

How are they creating an entire television season on something that’s already been done?

Honestly a television series works better, because you can add the stuff from the books the movies have to leave out.

I read the first season will be 8 episodes, hopefully 45-60 minutes each. Apart from Snape being black my biggest concern is Lithgow. He's 80 and there may be 8 seasons. That's a hell of a lot for an 80 year old.

You’re just hating to hate then because it doesn’t at all. Even people who wanted to dislike it admit it’s got some juice…outside of Snape

Look you can hate it or think it’s just a cash grab and if that’s the case just frick off

They’re also the ones that most closely resemble the books. There’s only 1-2 parts in each one that were left out. That’s also why it looks so similar. You’re not going to notice a big difference between the show and movies until you get to Prisoner and then you’ll REALLY see it with Goblet through Hallows

It’s the internet. People will hate just to have. It’s clear from the directing, acting, production, costume and set design that they got people who love HP to work on it and make it similar but also new.

I love that you know what charm an 8 hour season will have based on a 2 minute trailer where the kids have virtually no talking lines.
