Watched and rewatched it. Still feeling about the same, that it looks promising, but ... some parts seem a bit sketchy. But this can be a good thing because I don't want all the best parts shown. Leave some for the actual show.
Then I watched Jeremy from Geeks and Gamers. He said many of the same things I did, about the CG being pretty decent, but then kinda went on a different tack. Said it had Return of the Jedi vibes, but I never heard specifically what he meant. He pointed out all the good things, but said that Cortana looked 'weird'. I get that, she wasn't so offputting that it bothered me. She's an AI avatar, and can change her look. (Don't know if he realizes she's being voiced by the same actress.) His main complaints were that some shots looked more fanfic than big budget studio. Again, maybe, but why waste all the good shots on a trailer? Hell, some shots might not even appear in the show.
I think he had some valid concerns with some scenes at the end of the trailer, but where he kinda lost me was overreacting to the 'diversity' stuff. Sure, they made an effort to show an Asian kid, and the Spartans to be 'diverse', but that's how it was in the game. So not sure what this beef is. Unfortunately, Hollywood's recent track record has been terrible. Maybe he's being too cynical. I thought it was mostly fine.

How much Chinese money did Viacom get to produce this show?
It's always a dead giveaway when you have a heavily-accented Chinese actor shown featured heavily in a trailer. It's basically a giant sign that says: "we made this with CCP cooperation and funding for Chinese market distribution and they forced us to use a mainland actor in an "important" role.
And BTW, I don't remember hardly anything about the Halo story other than those fricking Flood stages and that the Halo ring was some kind of ancient formation and the aliens were all over it.

Been a while since I’ve read the books but IIRC Spartans were created as a sort of last ditch effort on Reach against the Covenant and all but the Chief got wiped out before the main storyline of the first game.
It's been a while since I read as well. But originally the Spartans were taken as kids before contact with the covenant . There were only like 3 confirmed alive and a few missing by the time the first storyline takes place.
The games have an amazing and iconic score and they put some generic song in the trailer..
I'll for sure watch but thought it looked a bit cheesy.

frick what a let down. I’ll give it a chance but just from the trailer it looks like a low budget CW half assed mini series. Also why the frick couldn’t they get the real master chief voice? That’s a game breaker there, it totally takes you out of the element.

The Halo rings were failsafe devices against the flood to wipe out all life in a segment of the galaxy. as i recall.
And as for the China stuff, anyone remember Firefly? Or Bladerunner? This stuff isn’t exactly new.

That sounds about right. Need to get my copy of Fall of Reach from my parents house for the nostalgia hit

343 guilty spark is one of the best missions in the entire franchise, and it’s also one of the greatest villain introductions in gaming history
I picked up a series X recently and began playing combat evolved on 4k remaster. A) Huge Mistake B) This scene in 4k is somehow scarier than I remember.
Do not, and I mean do not play this game in 4k. You will forget about everything again like you did the first time through.

Late to this thread but agree with most takes I've read. Looks like some generic Viacom garbage that disrespects the lore and tries to appeal to a broader audience at the expense of lifelong fans. I really hope I'm wrong.

Yeah for morale purposes.
At first Bungie wanted to make you feel like the last of a kind. But it got retconned with some of the books. So like during the events of Halo 2, other Spartan 2s like Blue Team were fighting on Earth as well.

Been waiting to see halo on the screen for a while. Not sure how it will be but I will give it a shot since there is so much terrible shite on TV these days.

Why didn't they hire the people who produced that? They did this 10 years ago with virtually no budget.
Halo 3 ad campaign was the goat.
So many good ones.

Cortana - Surprised we're getting a female A.I. that resembles the game version. Good.
Dr. Halsey surprised me as well. She almost looks like her character in the game.

It feels like you played Halo: Reach and that's it. The Spartans at Reach were a part of the Spartan-III and Spartan-IV project. Master Chief is a Spartan-II, which was a predecessor to the Orion project (literally every subject died in Orion) and most Spartan-II's died in the experiments or in the civil war of the worlds.
The Spartans weren't created to fight the covenant - they were created to fight against other humans during unrest. Humanities hubris almost being our undoing is the theme of the Halo stories

The rest is right but Spartan IVs didn’t exist until after Human-Covenant war was over (Halo 4). The Orion project was the first super soldier experiment (unofficially Spartan 1) and most didn’t die. Sgt. Johnson was a member as was maybe Sgt. Forge (he was in Halo Wars). They were disbanded after one mission. Halsey carried out the Spartan 2 program while ONI unbeknownst to her carried out the Spartan 3 program.
Kind of side note about Johnson. Being a Spartan 1 is the canonical reason on how he escaped the Flood in Halo CE. It was probably how he was still a front lines soldier at old age (he was 75 years old in Halo 3).
