I just tried to explain some of the story to my wife and I realized just how multi faceted the story can be. I think a lot of people that play the game and read the books take for granted their knowledge of the lore.
I like the trailer. The visuals look good, and the actors on deck are high caliber. I hope they capture some of the demonization of Halsey early on. I think a lot of the woke criticism is questionable. The Spartan program was originally created to quell human insurrections by an authoritarian government. This was always going to be a story about class struggle, either the human angle or the Covenant angle with the Prophets.

Right off the bat there is a huge change. Installation 04 was chanced upon by pillar of autumn after the ship fled reach.
The ring was not discovered by master chief finding a forerunner object as this show depicts

The story is not a retelling of the games, it's a completely original canon
It's part of the reason I'm so interested, as it gives them some room to do something different

On the other hand the majority of the viewers will be Halo fans not impressed with the creative liberties.
I’m sure it’ll get decent episode 1 ratings but nothing’s going to keep viewers around once the novelty is gone.

In Halo: Reach, Halsey finds a Forerunner artifact in the underground ice cavern and Cortana uses it to navigate the Autumn to Halo.

It doesn’t look like they do. Chief was in cryo-sleep in the Reach storyline and it was the other Spartans (I think the second iteration) that found the forerunner artifact. Here it looked like Chief found it—which immediately thought was odd.

Well that game came out in 2001. Halo Reach retconned a bunch of stuff which is why the game isn’t well loved by book fans (typical
). I think the original story by Bungie had it as them following some coordinates but they didn’t know what was there. Reach changed it up some by making it provided by Forerunner information carried by Cortana
