Great sequels that begat terrible franchises

A bit of a continuation of a theme, I was watching a series of YouTube videos from "The Critical Drinker" (he's awesome, check him out), and the one on The Predator made me think of at least three movie franchises that keep being forced onto the public thanks mostly in part to a financially successful second installment.
Aliens
Terminator 2
Predator 2
Most try to mimic what worked without actually realizing the part that worked. His one on Terminator: Dark Fate is also a great one

Transformers. Not because any of them are really good movies, but because they make enough money to justify more.
Same logic with the Fast and Furious franchise, but it was the 4th that revitalized the franchise.

One is not like the others.

True. The first two were significantly better than Predator 2, but the 2nd Predator movie made enough money to make movie companies keep going back to that well instead of leaving it alone.

First one was good but the sequels were all trash until the reboot Bumblebee

But your premise is right.
Terminator 2 was the best and worst thing to happen.
Despite making horrible movies, people still held the franchise in high regard because of nostalgia for 2.

Hot take here, but I’m going with Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back is a masterpiece. Return of the Jedi is still pretty good, but nothing that came after (save Rogue One) was worth a shite.

That's true too.
Obviously.
Every Star Wars after was chasing Empire.
If only we could get back to that.

I take the Transformers movies for what they are. Vehicle porn and soft core actress/model porn.
I will fight anyone who says those Wahlberg abortions are better than Shia’s though. Those were fricking dumpster fires and the height of incredible creepy cringe with that “Romeo and Juliet” law BS.

On it's own the first one wasn't bad. I actually like Shia in the role, and prime Megan Fox is always a nice addition.
The 2nd one was just horrendous. Whoever gave the green light for Devastator to have balls should never be allowed to work in Hollywood again
I haven't seen any of the Wahlberg ones, I stopped watching after the third one, although that one had some good moments as well, some of the stuff after the fall of Chicago was done pretty well

I saw the first Marky Mark one on cable and it’s horrible, but not as bad as the third one with Shia.

Home Alone 2.
After that one, they tried to milk the Home Alone franchise with some shitty DVD releases.

With no Kevin, the franchise became pointless.

Gotta have Pirates of the Carribean on this list and maybe even Die Hard.

No, none of pirates sequels came close to the original

The Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi

I'm going to say Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan saved the movie franchise. The first one got horrible reviews and lost money. Now after that: not good, great, horrible, great... And then the Next Generation movies started.
