THIS

I've never felt so absolutely horrible after watching something.

Any M Night Shyamalan (Sp?) movie. The early ones all had some big twist/surprise ending. Once you know the ending, makes rewatching it hard. I think the only exception would be the Sixth Sense. Just to catch all the clues/giveaways you might have missed the first time.

For me, the only films I can remember being disappointed the second time around was The Hours and Slumdiog Millionaire.
For me it was Avatar. I watched it in 3D IMAX and thought it was the greatest thing ever. And that the Academy was stupid for giving Best Picture to Hurt Locker (which they were, but that is another thread). When I saw it on my TV at home, it wasn't the same.

Schindler's List and The Deer Hunter are the first ones that come to mind.

First one that came to mind for me.

I thought it was really good, but don't ever plan on watching it again.

For some reason Walk the Line was like this for me. Loved the movie but had no desire to see it again.

Shutter Island for me

Saw this on the other day and tried to watch it and could not.

I think it falls into certain categories for me: a] suspenseful thrillers with a twist, b] +2 hr epics, c] and really sad movies.

A:
Momento
Machinist
Usual Suspects
Moon
Sixth Sense

B:
Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Narnia
Braveheart
exception: BTTF

C:
Striped Pajamas
The Road
Bridge to Teribithia

Argo and Lincoln. Argo is more watchable, but for some reason twice is plenty for me.

I still watch it when it is on, but I'm not sure I've ever enjoyed a movie on the first watching as much as Inception.

Re-view value is an important criteria in evaluating the quality of a movie for me. If a twist in a movie is so important to the plot that it renders it a one time viewing, then it might be a great movie by professional standards but it likely won't be one of my favorite movies. Likewise for a movie that is so painful to watch that I can hardly get through it. A truly great movie doesn't rely on a essential twist or is so agonizing that I can hardly watch it. This is why for me Shawshank Redemption is a near perfectly balanced movie. It has a solid twist and some brutal moments but it's very rewatchable because of the quality of the plot, character development and excellent acting.

I said for me. For me, with trilogies, I just can't sit through 9 hours of a story that I have seen before. I think BTTF is the exception because the stories are in the same universe, but not one story arch. Frankly, I'd just rather watch something new. I loved Star Wars, but I haven't watched it again in probably close to 15 years.

The setup for the reveal is better.

Goes to show you there's different types of shite out there for everybody. ALOT of the movies in this thread I've seen plenty of times and will probably see again

The Fighter - twice
LoTR trilogy - 4 or 5
Field of Dreams - 3 or 4
Lincoln - twice
Dances with wolves - 3 or 4
