What gave it away, the point head thing? I honestly thought they revealed Benjin as a white walker or something.
I thought he was the Great Other, who both Thoros and Melisandre mention as the great opponent to R'hllor, and the God of Darkness, Cold, evil, and fear. It's up to debate on whether the Great Other actually exists though.

I'm not a reader so I don't know what any of that means
I'll admit being a fan of horror the white walker angle interest the shite out of me and I wish they were more heavily involved in the story. I want to actually see a battle between them and a group of humans.

Yes

As the Starks say, "Winter is Coming".

The Night's King was the single most infamous Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and probably ruler in the history of the Seven Kingdoms. He was a supposedly a Stark and the 13th Commander of the Night's Watch (for perspective, we're now on Commander 998). He took a White Walker to wife, spilt his seed in her, and consumed his soul. He then claimed himself as King, but the Wildings and the Northmen came together to overthrow him
For the non book readers, this story was told by Bran. It should have been last season episode 10.
In the show he told the story of the rat cook, in the book he told 2 other stories. The Night's King was one the others (no pun intended)
The Night's King was Brandon Stark and he was defeated by his brother, the Lord of Winterfell.

Ok, so to be clear here, bookreaders believe that we possibly just met the Night's King and that is who the White Walkers answer to? But you don't know that for fact, it was just implied in the books?
Is the rat cook story told before or after the red wedding?
Was Brandon Stark the brother of Ned that was supposed to marry Catelyn?

Much, much older Brandon Stark, they reuse names a lot. Nights King was supposedly the 13th Lord Commander of the Nights Watch some 8,000 years ago. For reference, Jeor Mormont was the 997th Lord Commander.
Don't know if anything is completely for certain yet. Readers are speculating some now as well.

That Brandon Stark was hundreds and hundreds of years ago.

I assumed he was long dead, but the description from HBO's website makes me think otherwise. Night's King isn't really a hereditary title, but one that comes from one's actions.

After

There are many Brandon Starks, and it is the most traditional Stark name. The original Stark was Bran the Builder and was legendary, as was Lann the Clever who founded House Lannister (hence the Lann in their name). The one we're talking about lived probably close to 8000 years before the events of the story.

Rat Cook was told in S3E10 after Hodor yelled down the well; it's in ASoS as well.

I have a question about Melisandre. If it's too spoilerish and we haven't got there yet don't answer; why has she only birthed one of those shadow demon things? You would think if she had that ability she'd do it as often as possible. She seems like she's full of shite the majority of the time, but that demon thing was definitely real
This was brought up in the Hodor thread.

I've only read each book once, so I can't guarantee that I'm giving complete information/may be leaving some things out. It's mentioned in both the books and the show that if she tried to create another 'baby' with Stannis that it would kill him/that he didn't have enough energy to be successful at it. The main purpose of the shadow baby was to kill Renly.

Ah, I've only read the first two books but the impression I got was that she also needed to be in close proximity to the target for it to work as well.

In the novels the shadow assassin has a huge effect on Stannis. He is noticeably aged and has dark bruises and sunken in eye sockets after it is born.
So Melisandre says she won't have another one with Stannis because he is not strong enough to handle another one because it would kill him.

And I think she says it in either E1 or E2 of Season 3 as well when he's licking his wounds on Dragonstone after the battle.

Yeah but it didn't make much sense bc they didn't alter Stannis' appearance in anyway like they apparently did in the books.
Posted on 4/29/14 at 5:01 pm to UMRealist
That's true...but Stephen Dillane is around 57 years old in real life. Older than Mark Addy who played Robert.
Posted on 4/29/14 at 5:09 pm to ladytiger118
Is Robert suppose to be the older brother? I guess it wouldn't make sense otherwise but I'd never thought about it.
