Does it? Or does it explain it a little more?

It basically would make Tywinn Lannister into Catelynn Stark 2.0, which would be a shame to him character

No, it completely ruins it. Tyrion has to be Tywin's blood, or else it partially justifies Tywin's atrocious treatment of Tyrion and lets Tyrion completely off the hook for killing his own father. Kinslaying is thought to be an even more vile crime than breaking Guest Right in Westeros, and Tyrion needs to somewhat pay for killing his own father. It's why Tywin is confident Tyrion won't kill him is due to the apparent atrocity of the action.

The thing is we shouldn't sympathize with Tywin all that much for Tyrion's treatment, especially since he had Tyrion's wife gang rapped by about 40 men, made Tyrion watch, and then forced him to finish her off. If you want to know why Tyrion is so fricked up in the series, it's that single action that made him go hardcore to the whoring and booze. Tywin was a monstrous man, and I don't think those actions need to be justified.

Plus if Tywin doubted for a second that Tyrion was his, he would have had him killed for sure. It was merely the kinslaying curse that prevented Tywin from killing Tyrion.

Also there is a gold quote from next season to Jaime where he's point blank told that he is not Tywin's son (not literally mind you), but Tyrion is. Jaime has nothing in common with his father, while Tyrion has a lot in common with Tywin. The only real difference between them is that Tyrion has a sense of humor and pities the defenseless, and Tywin doesn't. The only thing separating their mindset is how they were raised. Tywin grew to distrust laughter due to his father being incredibly incompetent and everyone laughing to him to his face. Tyrion on the other hand made laughter his armor, which of course pisses off Tywin. That's their real only fundamental difference.

If Tyrion was not a dwarf and didn't kill his mother in birth, even with his present personality and actions, he would surely be Tywin's favored son. Tyrion is without question Tywin's son, and both of them would be thrilled not to be related to the other. It would be an absolute cop-out for them to not be related. I find this to be the most insulting of all the major theories.

Yeah, it is, but I expect people will still be coming out with that even after the novels end. King Aerys lusted after Tywin's wife, and some people think this means that Tyrion is his son. But that would cheapen so many storylines it's nuts. I am being serious that if that is true, I'll throw my book into the fireplace.

this has probably been covered (shite maybe even by me i don't remember) but was interested in knowing from book readers who they feel are the home run castings by the show from the book. and maybe some that aren't that great.

i would think someone like dinklage pretty much rules though i know he's uglier in the books.

but from readers, i hear them lauding the lannister cast- tywin, cersie, and jamie. oh joffrey too. i definitely can't imagine anyone else besides Dance and Heady playing those two roles.

who meets/exceeds your expectations and who doesn't quite measure up to your imagination on the show?

Bump.

About halfway done with ASoS. Was hoping to at least be done with it by the time the season starts but this will have to do. I'll certainly finish it before the end of the season.

At this point there's some storylines that are going to go beyond what we've seen in the books, so at this point we're all going to get spoiled. Don't feel bad.

On the flipside, there's also going to be some decent changes from the books that keeps everybody on their toes. I legitimately don't know who they're going to keep alive/kill off at this point.

Yeah I know and I was already spoiled on a couple story lines last year that haven't occurred yet on the show. I've accepted that it's difficult to avoid the spoilers I just wanted to be as caught up as possible so that the books aren't as big a drag as some of it is.
