I don't have any problems with the Arya arc at all. I think she HAS progressed fine - holding her own in wits with Tywin. And thinking fast to get Jaquen to go beyond his 3 person "debt".

Rob and Talisa's story is a mess. Not because they deviated from the book but just because it seemed very poorly executed all the way around. I think they took a chance in devoting airtime to showing it play out and just couldn't carry it off. Not sure how I'll feel if she turns out to be a spy. Would it make Rob look more or less clueless than if it was just a chance encounter?

I don't know I haven't seen it. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they ended season 2 before showing Mance.

Mance Rayder is an unseen character in Game of Thrones. Though mentioned in the first season, he is not expected to appear or be cast until a potential third season at the earliest. LINK

So I think that is a negative. These are some of the actors that were conjectured to be considered for the role: LINK I can see Henry Ian Cusick aka Desomnd from LOST being a good Mance Rayder; seems to have the mild demeanor that fits with the impression I got from the books.

Could they trick us? Afterall wasn't the pretending to be a minstrel when Jon met him? Could they cast a 'Mance' for season two and a different one for S3?

It's possible because yes, in the book Mance tells Jon that he went over the wall and posed as a minstrel in the great hall in Winterfell.

A Game of Thrones
It was revealed that when Robert Baratheon came to Winterfell to see his old friend Eddard Stark, Mance was actually present at this event. Hearing of the King's planned visit via sources in the Night's Watch, Mance ,inspired by the Bael the Bard legend, decided to partake in the event. He scaled the Wall and journeyed to Winterfell.
His presence was unbeknownst to Eddard Stark, who had never met Mance, nor by Benjen Stark, who joined the Watch after Mance's desertion. Under the disguise of a musician, Mance played the lute during the feast.

I like the way they are setting up the half hand planting seeds for Jon to infiltrate the wildlings. It should be a powerful scene when they fight and Jon kills him (at his command).

Something I'm just thinking of ... I wonder how the giants and the large beasts (I want to say mamoths but can't remember exactly what they were) will impact the production budget. Or maybe how the production budget will impact their use or non use.

Likewise, should be a great scene.

Should be interesting to see how that deal with it. Sadly this is a limitation of TV series budgets compared to epic movies like Lord of the Rings that had epic budgets to work with.

I didn't really care about Robb in the book and I definitely don't in the show. Him and Catelyn are dumb and dumber.

All better love stories than Twilight.

Has anyone gone back and read the Jon chapter from the AGOT where the Lannisters are feasting with the Starks? On my reread, I forgot that Mance was there and didn't think to check if Jon described any singers in the audience. I lent out my book, so I can't go back to check.

One of those links from yesterday with speculation on potential Mance Rayder's mentioned that James Purefoy has expressed interest in joining the cast. I don't see him as Mance so much but he would make a great Red Viper.

James Purefoy = Euron Fricking Greyjoy

After his role as Mark Antony on Rome that is who I see. He is a perfect cocky badarse that would not have a problem fricking your wife then making fun of you.

quote:

The Great Hall of Winterfell was hazy with smoke and heavy with the smell of roasted meat and fresh-baked bread. Its grey stone walls were draped with banners. White, gold, crimson: the direwolf of Stark, Baratheon’s crowned stag, the lion of Lannister. A singer was playing the high harp and reciting a ballad, but down at this end of the hall his voice could scarcely be heard above the roar of the fire, the clangor of pewter plates and cups, and the low mutter of a hundred drunken conversations.

quote:

The sounds of music and song spilled through the open windows behind him. They were the last things Jon wanted to hear. He wiped away his tears on the sleeve of his shirt, furious that he had let them fall, and turned to go.

That is all that is mentioned, nothing to give it away at all.
