Really love this genre. Have done Homeland, The Americans, The Night Manager. Just finished Hunter. What are some good ones?

Thinking of starting Berlin Station or Liverpool.

Spooks

I think the US release has a different name.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Alec Guiness t.v. series not the movie);
Smiley's People;
another series that had promise was AMC's Rubicon. It got cancelled though so no payoff.

I think the genre is often best served in books rather than video series. Its even more difficult to make stand alone movie.

Bridge of Spies is really good, like most Tom Hanks movies.

The Debt is about Mossad agents kidnapping a Nazi out of East Berlin in the '60s. It stars Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain. It's rated ~75% on Rotten Tomato's, but I thought it was really good.

There's a Leonardo DiCaprio movie set in Iraq where he is a clandestine service operative and Russell Crowe is his a-hole boss in DC. I liked it. I think it was called Body of Lies (Lies is in the title, but I'm not positive it's Body of Lies)

Fauda on Netflix is good if you don't mind voice overs or subtitles.

It's closest to homeland but is Israel-Palestine

I guess these two fit the thriller criterion. You did not specify if you are looking for TV shows or movies.

The Name of the Rose
quote:

It is a historical murder mystery set in an Italian monastery in the year 1327;
. The book got better reviews than the movie.

Klute - I believe Hanoi Jane got the best picture Oscar; I remember it being good but it has been a while since I have seen it.

Pretty good show, IMO. Crazy Judd really didn't age well.

There's another decent on on Epix. Can't remember the name of it. Has Mark Strong in it.

In addition to the many already mentioned I'll add:

The Little Drummer Girl ... on demand off of AMC, 3 pt series.

SAS: Who Dares Wins ... BBC but it's also showing on the Outdoor Channel. It's a play off of one of my favorite old movies from the 80s that was titled "The Final Option" here in American staring Lewis Collins (who should have been a James Bond) and Just Davis, Richard Widmark, among others. When I saw it in England it was titled "Who Dares Wins," and this latest series is based off the book and the movie. I think we're either in S3 or S4 but it's a big hit in the UK.

As already mentioned above, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the GOAT with an all-star cast. Gary Old man should have won the Oscar for best lead actor. Any of a number of that cast could have won for best supporting actor.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ... see the original subtitled version first staring Naomi Rapice (I think is how you spell her name) then see the English version starting Daniel Craig and the Rooney gal. Both versions are great.

Not CIA but FBI ... see Mindhunter on Amazon Prime.
