The intro to Gi Joe the movie is the greatest 3 minutes and 41 seconds minutes of GI Joe ever animated. The rest of the movie sucked. Cobra LA was stupid. Lt. Falcon was stupid. Slaughters Renegades were stupid. All the new Joe's were lame as he'll, and the cool Joe's like Shipwreck and SnakeEyes did nothing important.

Transformers the movie was by no means great, but it had an awesome soundtrack and took some real chances killing off popular characters like Optimus Prime. It also at least worked within the existing continuity and didn't require a massive reboot like the GI Joe series did after the movie.

To be fair GI Joe the movie was impacted to the negative reaction to Optimus Prime being kind and it made them not kill Duke which was hastily explained.

Never watched the GI Joe movie so I can’t comment but Transformers was/is my favorite cartoon ever. The first 20-25 minutes is cartoon Saving Private Ryan. Ironhide taking a cannon shot directly to the face is the absolute peak of Megatron being a badass. Such heroic nonsense indeed. After Starscream is killed the rest of the movie is complete horse shite. I can’t get through it today. Plus the movie is later deemed pointless by bringing Prime back twice. Second time he was killed off was R rated compared to the movie.

Bumblebee just casually being reformed into the stupid looking Goldbug and all the Headmaster nonsense ended the cartoon for me. Watching the some of the Japan only last season is bizarre too.

They are both great, but GIJOE is slightly better.

The Transformers animated film is heads and shoulders above Bay's garbage!

I was all into G.I. Joe when I was a kid. Never got into Transformers. So I have to say "YO JOE!"

Well said. It was robot carnage we never got from the daily cartoon.

One hundred percent agree. Anytime the media back in the 80's would do a news piece on cartoons becoming too "violent" they would almost ALWAYS have a short clip from this intro

The cartoon never did SnakeEyes justice. The scene where he's getting his pistol shots blocked by the Cobra-La warrior with the huge sword was absolutely horrid.

Most of it was great, except for that one Vince DiCola song, which sounded like a 1980's YMCA commercial.

I'm going to go with the one that gets the Saints Row 4 treatment.

I just rewatched it for the first time in forever. It is certainly an awesome watch. It did make me have three questions:

1. How was GI Joe already there in force? They're literally inside the Statue of Liberty. Talk about your security leaks, Cobra.

2. What exactly was Cobra's plan? In the series their goal was to rule the world; instead their plan is to destroy the Statue of Liberty? How does that help them rule the world?

3. For all the crap going on around it, the statue remains amazingly undamaged.

I would counter with the WTF moment of first seeing Unicron at the beginning of the Transformers movie. shite was DARK.

Yes it was dark. Dark and violent for a kids cartoon movie. Was a masterpiece. I’m honestly surprised it’s even a debate in this thread as to which is better.

As for your GI Joes questions, I think the topic may deserve it’s own thread. A “let’s over analyze GI Joe thread”.

You could do that to a lot of shows, but 80s cartoons would certainly get a pretty big thread going. Robot Chicken has poked fun at GI Joe quite a bit because a lot of it wouldn't hold up.
Fumbles the Sniper
GI Joe's Wall of Fallen Heroes
GI Drone

All just awesome.
