George RR Martin. Greatest entertainment troll in history? No real spoilers.

If these are spoilers for someone, they are seriously over sensitive.
Based on the length of the Game of Thrones threads on this board and many others. I highly doubt I am the first to proffer this theory. I'm hoping my thought, as to the purpose behind it, might be from at least a slightly different angle.
I'm starting to think the Fat Man is going to kill off every single major, and semi-major, character before the end of the last book(if he ever gets there).
Literally.
Every.
Single.
One.
And yes, I know this part is not a new theory.
No one makes it out alive. Caesar spares none as it were. All for his own entertainment, and no one else's.
Tell me, based on Martin's personality, is this REALLY that farfetched?
You write books that garner millions of fans, and millions of dollars. Then, in the end, you let everyone figure out that every word you wrote was literally for your own enjoyment. Not because you enjoyed the story you told, or even the writing of it. But because you enjoyed wrenching those tasty, tasty tears from every ounce of character attachment felt by millions of book readers and fans around the world.
Basically, writing a massive series, and building a huge world. Simply for the sole purpose of breaking the hearts and minds of as many people/fans as possible.
In this case, it was never about fame, money, or storytelling. It was the fans, but not about what they could GIVE to him. Rather, it was about what he could TAKE from them.
If he does it? Easily, it would be the greatest entertainment based troll in history. imo. Based on scale alone.
In the end, we all die. Which was a theme he pointed out to fans since day one.
In other words, no one makes it out alive. They all die.
Literally.
Every.
Single.
One.
All so he can enjoy your grief.
Martin is Cartman.

Nope.
Youre right he is a troll.
But he is also a great story teller and killing every single major character off would make for a shitty story.

He is not a one of those writers where you will see a happy ending and he's honest about it. That doesnt make one a troll IMO. He's been public about how this isnt one of those stories where the good guy wins.

I'm still holding out hope that Ned Stark, the best character in the entire series, comes back to life and takes the throne.

I've never thought that of him. He is, or was, great at story/world shaping. But his words on the actual page never felt like those of a great story teller. Always came across as too clunky. Hopefully you understand what I mean when I say this, he weaved the story, but without ever truly weaving the words. His ability as a word smith has always been lacking to me. Which I think someone has to have to be considered a great story "Teller".
Again, just my opinion, but I would put my reading ability, vocabulary, and experience up against anyone's. I understand if you disagree, to each his own, of course. I simply ask that you don't dismiss it as the opinion of someone who has no experience on the subject.
Regardless, story teller or story shaper, your point still stands.

So you're saying he is Orson Lannister?

Ned sucks.

You couldn't put this in the crackpot thread?

Ned is played by Sean Bean. So we can assume he is the best character in the movie or series and he dies tragically early. Without fail.

This is more of a thread proposing a new theory about Martin's motives, not a new theory in regards to the characters. So I figured it would be fine.
Plus, its quiet around here. It's the off-season, both in TV and Football. It really isn't a big deal.

Not really a theory. He's said before in lectures that when he made up stories as a kid, he loved killing off all his characters.

I personally think he's full of shite and doesn't know how it ends.
He's been creating this huge world and all of these separate intricate story lines that everyone assumes will all get tied together towards the major plot arc in the series. I think in reality he's fricked and has no idea how he's going to tie all these stories together and 80% of it is going to end up meaningless. Which is also why he kills off so many characters

I kind of hope he does just to piss off every fanboy/girl out there. I think in the end, Jon Snow is revived but still fails to stop the white walkers. That would piss off sooooo many people.
Also if he really is only a bastard of Ned then there may be a revolt

The real troll act is that Dany is actually the villain of the piece.

I've read a ton of his other stuff, from short stories to novels and that is not his usual modus operandi (to kill off literally everyone).
I think the main reason Martin killed off so many major characters, especially early was to keep the dramatic tension for the rest of the series (I think even originally the series was conceived of as running at least 3 books). So that people wouldn't know what to expect. Seems like later on he threw in some "fake out" deaths which worked because we are all literally expecting anything.
But yeah, as someone said above this would definitely fit on the Crackpot Theory thread.

Hate to post back to back, but it seems George R.R. Martin has addressed your exact question very very recently:

I thought it was an interesting move by HBO to have him co-write the season 2 finale of True Detective.
