He supposedly got it under control 2 years ago, and still no word on Thorn of Emberlain.

It sorta came back and he got on a new combination of medication in the past year that he claims has completely eliminated his anxiety most of the time. Said it took him a second to adjust to living anxiety free.

He claimed about a week or so ago that he would have a GB Novella out within the next couple of months, possibly two of them in 2023, and thinks Thorn will be out then as well. Essentially.

Trump broke Rothfuss even worse. I don't think ole Pat wrote for that entire presidency.

It took over a thousand years to fully translate the Bible into English...

I think he's on pace with that.

Yeah 500 pages is ALOT
The book is 1700 pages (projected).

This is just under 1/3.

That is another 4-5 years.

They started out around 650-ish and grew from there. A Dance with Dragons is the largest published at just over 1,000 pages.

When he’s talking about pages he’s almost certainly referring to manuscript pages which would not have the same page count as the actual published book.

Really? You think it’s just a coincidence that Bran is the first pov chapter?

I think he’s such a people pleaser and wants to be liked that he may change it up a bit. I mean shite the show didn’t even follow the books completely on some things. Let me dream!!

this is why I stopped reading the series when I heard he was tired of writing the books.

do the book fans even care anymore at this point?

Not really. I will probably read it, but I’m not going to be terribly excited about it because it’s most likely going to be disappointing.

I honestly believe Martin wrote himself into an almost impossible corner in the books and just doesn't know how to end it. The TV show stripped out a bunch of the more meandering storylines and tried to get straight to the point, but that only made it feel rushed and unsatisfying. I mean, keep in mind that in the books one of the very last things that happened was Cat Stark returning, possibly from the dead, to wreak her horrible vengeance on those that murdered her family. How do you fit that into the ending as presented by the show? I also have to believe that Martin does, or did, intend for the whole "Azor Ahai" thing to go... somewhere. Anywhere, really. The TV show more or less just dropped that angle once Jon was brought back from the dead, but let's all keep in mind that Jon was brought back from the motherfricking dead. I know "subverting expectations" is one of the reasons the books hit so hard when they were released, but at some point you have to know your audience and give them what they want, unless you're just a massive douchebag who doesn't give a shite and just wants to troll people. Which, I don't know, perhaps he is.

I’m not a writer but 500 pages when you have a good outline of the story already drafted seems doable in less than half a year for sure

But look at the writer we're talking about

It's taken him 11 years to write 1,000 pages.

Loool. No.

I'm not gonna lie and say that I won't read it when it comes out, but GRRM's laziness and lack of focus are destroying whatever legacy that he hoped to have.

The last two seasons flat out sucked and in no way served as a conclusion to reading the books or watching the show, imo.

I wonder if he'll stick with R+L=J since it was already revealed on the show (and anyone who was paying attention saw it coming from a mile away) or will he "subvert expectations" and go a different route.

So, there's so many other characters in the books that are not in the show (i.e. Lady Stoneheart, Victarion Greyjoy, Jeyne Westerling, Arianne Martell, Young Griff) that there's plenty of places to go that the show didn't.

That said, he's absolutely going to change the ending of the books because of the fan blowback and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if he purposefully slowed down his writing to see the fan reaction to what he originally proposed.

I just don't think it ever truly gets finished.

I have always been intrigued by this comment- I see it so often on here, and I often wonder what the commenter has done with their life, because they almost certainly haven't created even a miniscule portion of what Martin has.

Hey, I would love for him to finish the story, but I would prefer it to not be done at all unless it continues with same level of brilliance that the current books have.
